In and Around the Woods, Sunday Afternoon

The shadows didn't want to budge. They liked it here, and they liked their toys, and maybe they would like to reach out, sometime, and bring in more...

Because the island would let them do that, wouldn't it?

It would be oh-so-cosy.

The next thing Rey spotted was a very large, very yellow, very angry flower, waving its leaves threateningly.

Weird day.

"So how would you fight that?" Rey asked, with a tone that sort of said of course, because of course.

"Having never fought a flower before," Kanan noted, "my best guess is that we have to find a way to pick it."

What even was this weird darkness bubble, anyway? What?

"Wait, really?" Rey asked, looking from him back to the flower.

"Or burn it," Kanan offered, "but I'd rather not take the entire forest down with us."

He was already sitting back and taking potshots at the thing as it lumbered its way over on leg-like masses of roots.

"All right, so... picking a giant walking flower. Okay."

So because it was kind of her thing, she made sure she was out of firing range when she decided to charge at it.

"And we're charging at walking flowers in the woods," Kanan sighed. The blaster was going away. Once again, it was going him no good. He might as well just give up on it and pull out his lightsaber for the rest of his time in here.

With the snap, hiss of an igniting blade, Kanan charged forward to join her.

The flower... tried to kick them. It did not want to be picked.

Rey actually felt better about this fight than she did with a teddy bear. If it tried to kick them, she would just head to its other side and start beating at the roots from there.

Also she could actually do more damage to that with her staff than to cotton.

The roots came far, far too close to Kanan, and he cleaved them away with his lightsaber with ease.

Of course more grew in to take their place, which earned a scowl up at the rest of the thing. Seriously?

"What kind of luck are you having with this thing so far?"

"Not much, but it's cathartic!" Rey called. "Think we can knock it down?"

How would a giant flower get up again?

"I think we probably stand a better chance of knocking it down than breaking it apart," Kanan replied, ducking and then jumping, avoiding another kick and the flower's angry attempt at stomping on him.

"Do we want to both tackle it from the same side? Trip it up?"

"Circles around it," Rey said, going in with her staff as soon as that root leg was down. "Won't know where to kick."

Hopefully, anyway!

"That's as good a plan as any," Kanan decided, grinning faintly. "You go left, I'll go right."

He started to run, keeping his lightsaber up between himself and the plant as he went.

They were trying to make a flower dizzy, weren't they?

It sure felt like that was what they were doing.

Rey went right, adding occasional hits to its legs to confuse where its direction was focused.

They were totally trying to make a flower dizzy.

The great part was, it seemed to be working. Kanan grinned as he ducked, slipping underneath a leg as the flower lifted it, trying to kick at Rey. His lightsaber flashed upwards, severing another clump of roots, leaving the flower trying desperately to turn and regenerate the missing leg parts at the same time.

It didn't seem to be doing too great at it, either.

"Other way!" Rey decided, turning to start in the other direction, trying to add one more layer of confusion to the moment.

Kanan took that cue and ran with it, launching himself backwards and jumping over the flailing leg, now. His lightsaber flashed out again, carving a tree down as he passed it, leaving it falling into the flower's path.

By the time Rey got to the tree, she was able to place her hands on it and easily vault herself over it to keep on going.

The flower absolutely did not do that, stumbling over the tree instead.

And once the flower started to stumble, all it really took was for Kanan to plant his feet for a moment, hold up his hands, reach into the Force, and push.

The flower hit the ground, hard.

And then it faded away.

Rey always appreciated when she got to see stuff like that. It would probably never stop being cool.

"Is it wrong that that was sort of fun?" she wondered.

Kanan shut off his lightsaber again, though this time, he kept the hilt in his hand, and turned a grin toward Rey.

"Nah," he replied. "I used to live for that sort of thing. Besides..." He nodded toward the place where the flower fell. "That was pretty damn satisfying. Good plan, Rey."

"I do good occasionally," she grinned.

"Hey, you impressed me," Kanan replied with a grin. "Must be better than occasionally. I'm not easily impressed."

"We made it dizzy," Rey said, amused. "You might want to rethink the 'easily' part."

"How many people do you know who would think to make a giant flower dizzy?"

And then actually pull it off while it was actively trying to stomp them to death?

"I honestly can't answer that," she pointed out. "But thank you."
