Homecoming 2018- Town Hall- Saturday evening

Town hall was decked out for homecoming, and there was certainly... a theme. Halloween Under the Sea was definitely a theme that they had come up with.

And it was a theme that was put together by several people not from this universe who didn't know much about Halloween, or what this planet had under its sea.

So there were definitely backdrops of waves lining the walls, and they were decorated with things like fish. Fish that were wearing costumes that had been Googled so that some might have firefighter helmets on, or cat ears. One was very definitely a superhero. Same for the octoroks. And sure, yeah, maybe you had one of these guys on a wall but he was wearing a witch's hat!

There was also plenty of orange and black glitter around, too. Don't worry, they hadn't classed the place up too much.

Even after the disastrous fiasco that was yesterday's kissing booth did a real quick number on Prompto's ego, it was hard for him to not feel confident as hell striding into the homecoming dance all decked out in full Kingsglaive attire. Sure, he wasn't officially a member yet, but he was going to be, and Noctis was the one who sent it to him to wear tonight, and if Noctis said it was okay, it was okay, just as long as Gladio never found about it because he'd freak the hell out.

....he did look pretty amazing in it, though, if he did say so himself.

Having a dinosaur with him probably helped a bit, too.

Listen, just because your roommate was a waist-high baby T-rex didn't mean he should have to skip out on homecoming, right? And clearly Jason was going to be in good company because what was this, half the student body were also animals right now? Which, sure, Prompto definitely wanted to happen some day to him, but he was feeling really glad that today was not that day.

"Hot damn, cowboy," Yang said approvingly, one hand on her hip. "Now I'm doubly sad I didn't get a break to make it over to you yesterday."

"Hwha?"

Well, since he clearly couldn't stop that little sound that seemed to fit an awful lot into it, from confusion and sheepishness to pride and pleasure, from coming out, Prompto did what he could to turn it into a laugh, grinning crookedly in a futile attempt to chase away his blush. And it took nearly every ounce of remaining energy he had not to start fidgeting and rubbing the back of his neck, which was for the best, anyway, as he didn't spend hours carefully sculpting his hair just to turn around and ruin it right out the gate.

"Hey, you don't look so bad yourself." Don't look so bad was apparently now synonymous with glorious. "You were thinking of coming over yesterday?"

Prompto's poor brain wasn't going to make it through the weekend at this point, though at least he felt a little bit better about his own flailing thoughts about trying to make it over to Yang's booth, but after he crashed and burned so spectacularly with Vette, his trampled little soul just didn't have it in him to risk another possibly crushing blow.

"Well, yeah. Planning on it, even. But my ~~player has a space brain~~ lunch took too long and I had to run back to my booth," Yang laughed. "--but you like it? Apparently people usually save red for 'Valentine's Day' or something, but why be boring when you can be bold?"

She said, to the guy wearing mostly all black, but that was different. Black was important.

"I love it," he managed to breathe out, wondering how anyone with eyes could think anything different, and hoping his...uh...admiration wasn't too obvious or lingering. "It suits you. Really well. I can't imagine anything you'd do...or wear..being boring, though."

Hey now, all black like that was a statement. And a hot one.

"You just say that because you haven't seen me in training clothes after a few hours of working out," she scoffed, though there were the echoes of a pleased blush at his compliment.

"So. You got a date tonight other than that dinosaur I saw you come in with?"

Waiting for poor Prompto's brain to catch up with her question in 3...2..1.

Oh, no, Yang, you'd have to give him a much longer countdown than that, now that he was stuck thinking about her in training clothes after a few hours of working out and thinking it was every bit of glorious as what she was wearing now. And he was sure she'd smell like roses, too.

...

Plus, one should never underestimate the levels of distraction that a sixteen year old with a puppy brain inside a clone body was capable of, because then she'd mentioned dinosaurs.

"A dinosaur? Is that what that is? I had no idea, I just woke up this morning, and he was like that, I've never seen anything like it! That's Jason, by the way," he added, giving a little peace sign salute to the T-rex on his way to the food table for snacks. "My roommate. He's not my date. I didn't come with a date."

See? He got there eventually! And flashed her that frequent crooked grin of his.

"I figured, so many gorgeous people at this thing, why tie yourself down to just one?"

That, and he was too chickenshit to actually ask anyone. Especially her.

Okay, that was the real reason, but no one needed to know that.

"Well, if I promise no tying-down, can I at least ask you for a dance?" Yang proposed with a wink. "Maybe more than one?"

Prompto's face was going to start aching from grinning so much.

"As many as you'd like," he said without a second's hesitation. "If you can manage to squeeze me in, that is."

Yeah, considering the traffic at his booth, he wasn't exactly expecting his dance card to be very filled up. Yang, on the other hand, he was still kind of astounded he'd been able to usurp as much of her time as he had already.

Yeah, well, she hadn't had that much traffic either.

"Come on then, Argentum," she said, grabbing his arm to pull him along with her. "Show me your moves, and I'll try not to step on your feet."

"You're very formal this evening." Lana eyed his outfit. "It looks good on you. Is that a uniform?"

"Oh, hey, Lana," Prompto grinned, fighting with his blush as he couldn't help squaring his shoulders a little, tugging the jacket to make sure it was settling properly, although it was very clear that it had been impeccably tailored. "Heh, thanks, I, uh, I probably could have toned it down a little, but..." The blush deepened and he shrugged, then shook his head as if trying to chase the more embarrassing thoughts away. "Yeah, it is a uniform. The fact that I was able to get it from home for this thing's....kind of a big deal, so...yeah...heh."

Just stop talking about the uniform, Prompto, before you melted into a nervous little puddle.

"You," he said, because it was way easier to deflect the attention onto her instead at that moment. "You look....amazing. Is that a popular style where you're from?"

"Me?" Welcome to awkward-in-these-clothes club. "Thank you. No, this is Earth fashion, though I picked it because some of the shapes reminded me of outfits at home. What's the uniform for, then? Military?"

Ball's back in your court, Prompto!

Smooth move, Beniko! Prompto couldn't even really be mad about it, though he figured it would be a bit harder to deflect it back if she was just adopting Earth fashion.

But he nodded, his grin softening with a touch of pride. "Pretty much," he said. "Kingsglaive. Pretty much the highest order of the Lucian Crownsguard, those who are chosen to serve the king directly."

He bit his lip almost nervously for a second, leaning forward as he dropped his voice into a bit of a whisper, as someone might overhear. "Technically, I'm not Kingsglaive yet, since Noctis is still prince, and I'm not even Crownsguard yet, not until I'm out of school, but it was Noctis's idea. If he says it's okay, then, you know, I mean..."

He was the prince. It should totally be okay!

"Well, it's up to him who gets to wear it, isn't it?" Lana asked. "If he says you can, you can." Of course it was fine.

"That's a much nicer outfit than the Imperial Guard," she confided. "Although they're mostly designed to be intimidating rather than fashionable. Head to toe red, generally with full-face helmets. You wouldn't want to mess with one, but you also wouldn't want to dance with them."

Well, his dad might have something else to say about it. And Gladio, but, pffftt. Whatever, musclehead.

Prompto tried to picture the outfits Lana was describing, head tilted slightly, and mostly was just glad that the Glaive uniform didn't involve any helmets at all. Helmets just made him think of magitek soldiers, and thinking of magitek soldiers made him have to suppress a shudder.

"I think black's a better color for me than red, anyway," he admitted, and then his brain did a little catch-up on something else she said, and his head tilted a little more as a crooked grin surfaced. "Wait. Are you saying you'd want to dance with me?"

It...might be a stretch, sure. But it might not have been. But the pendulum on Prompto's widely swinging ego was arching pretty high right now, after talking with Yang.

Lana grinned. "If you think you'd be up for it. Although I should warn you, I have no idea what sorts of dances are done around here."

"Of course I'm up for it." The day he wouldn't be up for dancing with a pretty girl would be the day Prompto Argentum was dead. And he'd only just got here, and already, today was already making up for yesterday. "And we'll be in the same boat, too, because, hey, neither do I! We'll see if we can figure it out together."

"That sounds like an excellent plan," Lana said, still grinning.

"Good." Nope. Prompto wouldn't be able to get rid of his smile even if he tried. "I'll, uh, maybe find you later, once maybe the dancing gets started?"

"Definitely," Lana agreed. "Or I'll find you."

"Looking forward to it."

So much so that he'd have to try a little so that he did just go seeking her out right away and would instead use that time to making sure when he did, it was oh-so-casual and not at all planned out agonizingly over the time until they got there.
