Homecoming 2018- Town Hall- Saturday evening

Town hall was decked out for homecoming, and there was certainly... a theme. Halloween Under the Sea was definitely a theme that they had come up with.

And it was a theme that was put together by several people not from this universe who didn't know much about Halloween, or what this planet had under its sea.

So there were definitely backdrops of waves lining the walls, and they were decorated with things like fish. Fish that were wearing costumes that had been Googled so that some might have firefighter helmets on, or cat ears. One was very definitely a superhero. Same for the octoroks. And sure, yeah, maybe you had one of these guys on a wall but he was wearing a witch's hat!

There was also plenty of orange and black glitter around, too. Don't worry, they hadn't classed the place up too much.

Tip was keeping it simple this year, with a classic black suit and tie, which at least meant she matched the decor pretty well.

Looking at that . . . whatever it was, though, she was wishing she'd added a witch's hat to complete the look.

"Good look," Sabine greeted her.

"Thanks!" Tip beamed back. "I love suits. Dresses are nice, too, but there's just something about formal pants, you know?"

"I actually don't," she admitted. She wasn't used to this sort of thing, and she'd done the jumpsuit thing, and wasn't entirely comfortable in it. "You'r really selling it, though."

"Not big on formal wear?" Tip guessed. "It's not for everyone."

"Not a lot of opportunities to wear it," she said. "We didn't have dances or anything back home. This is all new."

"Yeah, that would do it. This isn't really the best intro to Earth culture, either. Fandom always has to be different."

"Astrid keeps saying this isn't average. I get that anytime I leave the island, but I'm never sure what really is normal for here," she admitted.

"Well, Astrid's almost aggressively normal, so yeah, she's probably a decent barometer for the weird," Tip said. "My world is apparently weird for Earth, though. For all I know, high school dances back in my world would seem bizarre to her, too."

"Do people in your world care who's going with who, or play that football thing?"

This was what she knew of supposedly normal homecomings.

"Unfortunately," Tip said with a sigh. "People are way too obsessed with relationships. Football's okay, I guess, but it's no stickyfish. No one even sings."

"I'm sorry, did you say 'sing?'" she checked.

"Yup! In stickyfish one of the ways to score is to get into the endzone and sing an invitation for the fish to come join you. But you have to do it perfectly and dodge the other players while you sing, or you can't try again until the next time your team's on offense."

Congratulations, Tip! It was hard to confuse Sabine this much!

"And these are... real fish?"

"From the Boov homeworld, yeah. They're kept in a vat of partially desalinated sports drink in between plays."

Are you starting to see where Tip's world was a little extra special, here, Sabine?

Little bit!

She went with, "That's new."

"The Boov are . . . unique. They once banished a guy to eternal trash duty because he wanted to a romantic relationship. And they almost elected a parrot as their first president. That's a type of non-sapient bird."

"I'm going to be honest," Sabine said, staring a little, "I have no idea how to react to this."

"Yeah." Tip shrugged. "Sometimes neither do I. And I've known about them since I was 11."
