And then once the sun had set, something changed. Across the island, people who chose to began transforming into the person or thing they were representing tonight. If, say, someone was dressed as a sheep, they might now be a real sheep, wandering the floor around people. The zombies still had their bowl cuts, only now they were real, and they weren't any more talented but they at least had more style.

So, well, if you weren't yourself now, make yourself at home! If you were yourself now, good luck with all of it.

Octavia was unsure about this development. Clearly the best thing to do was to stuff her latest hoarded snacks into her mouth before doing anything else.

That was a good plan. Duke hadn't hoarded any snacks yet, and he was feeling peckish!

He was also very curious about this other raccoon. He crept over, keeping low to the floor, and dodging around all the giant human feet.

'Sup, fellow raccoon.

Octavia watched him keenly.

Also kind of... backed up just a little bit. Just like a step or two. Just in case.

Duke stopped a little ways away, sniffing the air.

Then he set down Lucifer's pocket square (slightly gnawed on) and pushed it in her direction.

Octavia stared at the pocket square, torn between curiosity and caution. Then, slowly, she crept forward, and snatched it into her tiny hands.

Duke waved his paws in the air. Cheering? Or just stretching?

He dropped back to all fours and chittered at her.

Octavia grasped the pocket square between her paws and sniffed at it.

Then she gave him a cautious little chitter back.

Duke looked at the snack table and back at her, chittering.

Maybe if they worked together they could get all the snacks?

It was definitely tempting.

Octavia gnawed on the pocket square. It wasn't as good as actual snacks, though, so after a moment, she let it drop. And then she moved - to show him the way she'd been trying to get to the treasures atop the snack table earlier.

Genius! Duke went to investigate the chair as well. Had she tried climbing up on it and tugging at the table cloth?

Octavia had tried something like that! It had not moved much.

But now there were two of them. She climbed onto the chair and reached out for the edge of the table cloth.

This plan was surely fool-proof! Duke grabbed double handfuls of table cloth, stretching waaaay out from the chair to do so.

To be fair, things ending up on the floor would only be to the raccoons’ advantage.

One of the snack bowls wobbled, encouraging Duke to pull harder.
