Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

Did Rosa sign herself up for this again? Yes. Yes, she actually did.

Was she going to glower about it and glare daggers at anyone even thinking of trying to dunk her?

Again, yes, of course she was. Have you met Rosa?

"This is becoming a thing."

Of course Kitty was here to make sure her friends got attention!

Kitty wasn't getting a glare, but she was getting a withering look. It was nothing personal. It was just that, while she'd been sitting there, Rosa had come to the horrifying realization that she may have actually agreed to a couples costume and now she was being told she had a thing.

"I have no idea," she insisted, "what you're talking about."

"Well, this won't be the first time I've dunked you," Kitty pointed out.

"So if you don't do it this time," Rosa pointed out, then it won't be a thing."

And this was way more about it being a thing than about her getting dunked. She was fine with the dunking, why else would she do this? Definitely not so that it could be a thing.

"I don't see how that's fun for me," Kitty admitted.

"Okay, fine," said Rosa, after a moment of considering this detail with narrowed eyes. "You're just lucky you're one of the few people whose fun I actually care about. Just don't...call it a thing."

She was having a moment about it.

"It's not a thing. Definitely not," Kitty said, going with that immediately. "Thanks for giving me a pass, I'm gonna dunk you now."

"Well, if it isn't Not-Kady. Odd, you didn't strike me as the 'group activity participation' sort."

Rosa's brow just furrowed a little in confusion.

"Sorry," she said, not feeling sorry about it at all. "Who are you?"

Eliot pressed his hand to his chest, making a show of being wounded by the question (to cover up feeling . . . actually kind of wounded by the question).

"Eliot Waugh," he said, with dry, idle dignity. "You drank a bottle of my whiskey the other night."

Rosa's narrowed eyes joined her eyebrows.

"...at that party?"

It was..vaguely coming back to her now.

Eliot nodded. “You referred to me as the ‘fashion police’. I’ve decided not to hold it against you.”

The journey of Rosa's brows took another twist as one of them lifted.

"Thanks?" she said, with no lack of uncertainty, because, you know what? Maybe that would have been preferable, if you got right down to it. "I guess?"

"You're welcome."

From a certain standpoint, they were like opposite sides of the same coin. Aloof, secretive . . . Eliot just did his with detached disdain while Rosa preferred outward aggression.

"So." He flicked to the booth, looking for any name information, and then just let the single syllable hang in the air, to see how, if at all, she'd choose to fill the silence.

"Soooo...." Rosa chose to pick that single syllable right up and drag it out expectantly. "Are you going to throw a ball or not?"

Eliot considered the ball. Considered her.

Then worked his Declan's accuracy spell -- he was getting some good work out of that, today -- and threw.

As it had the last two times, the spell meant his throw was dead on target.
