Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"To stay dry and not die of pneumonia?" Anakin tried.

"They'd take care of you at the clinic," Stark said. "You'd be fine. Just cold. And wet."

"But I don't want to be cold and wet," Anakin said.

Tough luck for you, Anakin.

Stark was unmoved by that, for some reason.

"I'm sure there are towels somewhere."

He didn't have high hopes for his throw but he had to try.

"There never seem to be any close to my tank," Anakin said.

Because they set you up, Anakin.

"I'll help you find one later," Stark offered. "When you need it."

Hopefully soon. But Stark's aim when throwing things wasn't great. But he was trying his best with this first throw.

"I won't need it," Anakin said airily.

Stark rolled his eye and threw again.

"I'm sure you will eventually."

He was not above cheating, Anakin.

Neither was Anakin as was obvious from just how far away from the target that ball had gone.

"Well, maybe when Jaina gets here," he admitted. "It's Dunk Grandfather Day."

"You ought to be dunked more than once," Stark said as he attempted another throw.

His aim was not wonderful but it wasn't as bad as it seemed to be today. Suspicious.

What a strange coincidence!

"Well, I'm not getting dunked once right now--"

Anakin, don't goad him.

"I have more money," Stark said cheerfully.

And possibly an accomplice for later. If needed.

"You might need it," Anakin said, nodding.

Stark sighed and threw another ball.

"Don't you feel guilty about all the cheating?"

"Not at all," Anakin said cheerfully.

Another ball, which might very well hit the target if left alone, was thrown.

"You ought to!"

"But I don't!" Anakin singsonged as the ball did a u-turn and ended up in Stark's hand again.

Stark looked at the ball, then at Anakin, then sighed.

"You should," he said, throwing the ball harder this time.

"Probably," Anakin agreed, letting the ball hit the target.

Well, that was unexpected. Stark had been prepared to go through many, many more balls in the pursuit of that elusive target.

Was he just going to float himself above the water to prove something?

Anakin liked to mess with him, okay? Keep him on his toes!

And now he was very wet.

It was an odd little friendship they had.

"I suppose I owe you a towel now?"
