Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"I most certainly did!" Amaya confirmed, thrusting her chin in bold confidence of that fact. "Wouldn't miss it for anything!"

Well, it sure beat the spit out of the other options, anyway!

But Irene asking that did shed a little light on the question of what Irene had been doing over in a similar booth for Amaya. Because at least when it came to fancy people allowing pie to be thrown at that, she figured at least Ignis had the culinary angle to work with.

And all that did make her grin a bit.

"You not so much?" she guessed.

"I blame the moose," Irene declared with an airy wave and a put-upon sigh. "Though I suppose I should be thankful I'm not in the dunk tank."

Then she would be very cranky and very cold, instead of just mildly cranky and looking forward to a shower.

"Yeah," Amaya allowed, "if you're going to be stuck somewhere, at least this one has pie!"

She could not emphasize enough how big of a draw that was.

"Although," she offered, "if you want to throw one, I can promise not to return the favor in kind."

A beat.

"Unless you'd want me to," she added, with another grin.

"Kitty already got me," Irene acknowledged, "so the damage is done, but I do love all these chivalrous offers to spare my poor little self from pie."

But if the offer was on the table to throw one and Amaya did seem to enjoy this, how could she resist? She was a pretty good shot -- throwing a pie oughtn't be too different. "If you're sure you don't mind and you actually enjoy this...."

"I've been looking forward to this all week," Amaya assured her, maybe slightly hyperbolic, but not by much! And so then her tone went a little more prodding, because the heckling part was almost as good as the pie part with this thing. "Come ooon! Let me see what you're made of, Irene! Hit me with your best shot!"

Okay, Irene actually couldn't help but laugh a little at the heckling. (She also totally thought it was cute, for the record.)

"All right." She adjusted her feet and closed one eye to line up the shot -- and if she was being a touch performative about this, well, Amaya's hyperbole was catching -- and neatly sent the pie flying through the air towards Amaya's face.

And now it was Amaya's turn to laugh a little, beause say what you will about Amaya's heckling, but there was no way it could even hold a candle to the cuteness of Ms. Fancy-Pants over her preparing her aim.

A laugh that was, perhaps, cut a bit short, as that aim was true and she got a face full of pie.

It was a temporary pause, though, because she laughed again, making a rather futile attempt to clean some of the cream up by darting her tongue out of the corner of her mouth. "Well done!" she declared. "And here I don't think I'd ever've pegged you for such a top-notch pie-flinger!"

"You know, I've not had much practice," Irene noted, clearly pleased with herself if, perhaps, a little distracted by that tongue. (Like anyone could blame her, please.) "But thank you. And you, my dear, look positively adorable in whipped cream."

Amaya. Amaya could blame her. What else was one expected to do with a face full of whipped cream but lick it off? Really, now, what else would she do? Scrape it off with that spoon she'd brought?

"Well, I don't know about that," said Amaya, who was nicely saved from dealing with too obvious a blush this time thanks to the pie, at least, but she gave it a little extra cover with a huff. "I'm pretty sure that's pretty much all the cream."

"Or the person wearing the cream," Irene countered easily, suspecting -- even if she couldn't see! -- that there was blushing going on under there. "But I tend to think you look positively adorable the rest of the time, Amaya. Cream just adds to it. But cheers for being a good sport!"

Because adorable or not, not everyone would be as cheerful about getting hit in the face with a pie, Irene very much included.
