Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

A ball went soaring through the air, in a neat straight line towards the target.

Where did it come from?

Maybe the tired-looking guy with the beard and the shaggy hair over in a corner, mostly out of sight, blending in with the furniture in the Force. Maybe any of the other passers-by. Who knew?

"Atton!" Anakin yelled as he pulled himself back up onto his platform. "I know it was you."

Atton felt like a pile of bantha droppings warmed over, but he had for a while, and according to his therapist, he was improving.

He was just here to keep the tradition alive, or something. So he seriously considered leaving before Anakin actually spotted him in the crowd.

He didn't move.

Anakin hopped out of his booth and wove his way through the people to get in front of Atton. "Need a caf?" he asked after a quick appraisal of all of Atton.

"I mean, if you're buying, I guess I'm not going to stop you," Atton drawled.

It was really some beard he'd grown.

"I think I can spring for a cup of caf," Anakin said. "Maybe even a shower. The good beans are back at my house anyway."

"I don't need a shower. I've got the Hawk parked nearby," Atton said. He shoved his hands in his jacket. (It wasn't the old jacket, no.) "Don't you live off-island?"

Anakin shook his head. "We moved back onto the island now that the kids are old enough to not be permanently traumatized if they turn into ponies for a weekend or whatever. They like the sugar snow."

Poodoo.

"Fine," Atton said. "I'll let you drag me to your..."

He lifted his arm uselessly, as if that would finish the sentence.

Yeah. Not as bounced back as his therapist kept telling him he was.

"Home," Anakin said with a tiny smile. "It's not far."

Nothing on the island was far.

"Because this island is still the size of three banthas taped together," Atton said. He shook his head. "Fine. Lead on."

Anakin took him up a flight of stairs and down another before arriving in front of his house and opening the unlocked (because of course) door. "Rory and the kids are out," he said.

"Convenient," Atton muttered. He looked up at the house. "I missed a bunch, huh."

"Maybe a few things," Anakin said with a little smile. "Next time I'll send you a change of address card."
