Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"Let's see now," Eliot mused as he walked up. "Would Margo be angrier with me if I did or didn't hit her favorite hot British lady in the face with a pie, now the opportunity has presented itself?"

"I've been advised that this is for a good cause, if you must," Irene said, laying on the drama pretty thick there. "And I will take that as a compliment, even if the competition is pretty slim."

Most of the other women with accents like hers were actually from space or fantasy worlds, strangely. Though she did rather like Lucille.

"True," Eliot said with an unworried shrug. He hefted a pie thoughtfully. "Perhaps all the whipped cream will at least be moisturizing."

"It has at least proven to be delicious," Irene told him, sitting up straight and adopting a vaguely stoic expression. It was sort of spoiled by the little smirk she couldn't help, but she really was trying to be a brave little soldier about her fate, today. "And better than the dunk tank. I'd probably have to slap someone if I ended up in there."

Someone who hadn't even asked to be slapped! (Though, like, sure, Irene, slap the moose, see how that works out.)

That was a good way to get oneself trampled, for sure.

Eliot lifted the pie into position. "I won't even use any magic to correct my aim," he said. "Maybe I'll miss you entirely."

Without magic he would absolutely miss her entirely.

"That's remarkably nice of you," Irene had to admit. Nicer than she probably would be in his position, with magic at her disposal. "Though don't sell yourself short. You're a handsome American man -- aren't you all just born able to play baseball?"

She was teasing. Eliot did not seem like someone who had so much as watched ESPN intentionally.

Eliot's expression lost a little . . . something . . . at that assumption. He had taken no end of abuse as a child for not being 'born to play baseball'. It was subtle, though, and he brushed it aside with hardly a blink a moment later.

"Alas, some of us were born for the stage, not the playing field." He bounced the pie in his hand once. "Ready?"

Irene was perceptive enough to catch that momentary shift in expression, and sensitive enough to realize she must have misstep, if not exactly how.

Mental note to buy Eliot a drink at some point.

"Ready," she assured him, squaring her shoulders and lifting her chin. "Give me your worst, Eliot."

“Oh,” Eliot said, with rare (for Fandom) self-depreciation. “I surely will.”

He threw. It was powerful, sure, but well off the mark.

Irene watched it go flying past, tilted her head, and glanced back at Eliot.

"If you want to tell Margo you hit me, I'll never say a word," she offered. She felt a little bad about her little unintentional faux pas, but also -- you know, that was a really bad throw.

Eliot laughed. "Oh, she's well aware of my faults and foibles," Eliot assured her. "With magic, that would have been absolutely on point."
begmetwice: ([neu] weeeeelll)

"Well, what is magic for if not cheating?" Irene replied, inclining her head in acknowledgement. "But I appreciate your mercy."

"You make her smile," Eliot said simply, earnest for just the barest of moments because he turned arch again. "And it seems like I might want to stay on your good side."
