Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"He didn't know what a fade was," Eliot said, shaking his head. "I may have convinced him to try wearing eyeliner, though."

Totally failing to repress that laugh now. Or was it a giggle?

“I need pictures,” Margo said.

"I am certain that can be arranged. Apparently he wants to wear it to the school dance tomorrow night."

“Baby’s first guyliner at a school dance,” Margo cackled. “Oh, that’s perfect!”

She needed to remember she hated Jon.

It would be hard. Jon had way too much "lost puppy" in him to hate for extended periods at a time. Though if anyone could manage it, it was Margo.

"I know. He ought to take an awkward photo with his date on the driveway while waiting for a limo."

Jon needed to do something hateable again sometime soon so Margo could stick her manicured fingernails in that grudge and figure out how to hold on for dear life.

“In a powder-blue suit.”

"With ruffles," Eliot said, savoring the word, then let out a bright laugh. "I think he'd look even sadder than usual if he tried."

“You think that’s even possible?” Margo asked, grinning so broadly it kinda hurt her face.

“If anyone could rise to the challenge, it’s our Fear Nerd,” Eliot said. “You know, I’ve actually seen him smile on occasion.”

“Fuck, I think you’re spending too much time with Fear Nerd.”

"Possibly," Eliot allowed (though he was starting to really like Jon). "But it's not like there's that much else to do around here. Even you can't research portals all the time."

“Well, I own a store full of bath bombs now, it seems like a shame to let that go to waste.”

Eliot knew what mama did with her bath time.

"Well, yes, I suppose that would kill a fair amount of time by itself, too."

“I’m just saying we all have options,” Margo said.

“True.” Eliot leaned against her booth to survey the crowd. “Spy anything I shouldn’t miss here today?”

“Nah,” Margo said, following the line of his gaze. “It’s small town carnival shit.”

Eliot knew that scene better than her.

“But apparently not everyone signed up on purpose, so you can always go booth-shopping for adorable dorks.”

“Mmm, our favorite.”

Well. Eliot’s favorite, anyway.

“Thankfully it’s a little too pretty here to give me flashbacks.”

Margo thought bumbling nerds were adorable, but they broke too easily. Eliot could have them.

“It is a pretty island, isn’t it?” she sighed. Like a little retro candy shop for the distinguishing modern bisexual woman.

“It’s like the whole place was populated from a casting couch.”
