After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

Stark had not been drunk or hungover at all. Just a little bit shot.

"A food class, at the community center. Tuesdays. Like Chopped?" It was going to be scarring!

Somehow worse, Stark!

"Oh! Well, that sounds like a lot of fun. Do people come watch then?" Because she'd come watch.

He'd gotten bacta patches, he was fine!

"We missed the first week. We were in space trying to help Rey." Getting shot, nbd. "I suppose people could watch, if they wanted."

"The 'little war' that Anakin mentioned?" she asked, trying to put it all together with the little information she had.

"It didn't feel little at the time," Stark said, rubbing at his right arm without realizing he was doing it. "But yes. He was there too. A lot of us were. She needed help, so we went."

"Are you okay?" Anakin had seemed pretty... upset about it all. Despite trying to say he was used to wars.

Which was the dumbest excuse ever.

Stark was not unused to wars himself. And probably overdue to freak out over everything sometime soon, honestly.

"I'm fine. I only got shot a little." Stark. Stop. "Everyone I know made it back this time."

"Oh, just a little?" No, Stark. That's not how you try to reassure people!

"Just my arm. It wasn't serious." In that he wasn't in danger of dying once he'd been Force-flung (mostly gently) onto the ship and out of the line of more fire. "I'd rather not do it again, anyway, even if it was only a little."

"Yes, I'd say that's probably the best course of action to avoid in the future," she agreed. "Do things like that happen a lot around here?"

"We weren't here. We were in Rey's version of space. But...no. Being shot at here isn't common. Things like last week happen much more often. The bags and the fire that wasn't real. Things like that."

"That whole week was a bit... strange," she agreed. "Especially the bags."

Hard pass on that again, thank you.

"I don't like the bags," Stark said, frowning. "I don't need the reminders. Or to see everyone else's. I don't think any of us do. I didn't mind the cats."

"They kept playing with my hair mostly," Jane admitted. "I think because I was closer to the ceiling than normal."

"You are tall." And with very nice arms.

"The cats mostly stayed in the ceiling. And I haven't got much hair for them to play with."

"Thankfully the magic hammer maintains the whole... perfect flowing blond hair thing," she admitted. "This is all way more work than I'd be up for."

That was just such a normal thing to say too, Jane.

"Magic hammer?" Stark repeated. That was new!

"Oh, Mjolnir," she said, showing him the hammer.

"It's magic? Or you're magic? Or both?"

"Well, mostly just it's magic and I benefit from it?" Again, totally normal.

"Oh." Stark had lived here long enough that magic items weren't a shock. "What does it do? Unless you don't want to say. You don't have to."

"Well, it's sort of a spell on it, I guess?" Jane said before continuing ina very dramatic voice. "Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."

Good job being worthy of the fancy magic hammer, Jane!

"Congratulations? I think."

"Thank you!" she said sincerely.

"How did you get your magic hammer? Unless you don't want to say."

He didn't want to pry but this was interesting.
