The beach, after sunset Saturday

It was Chuck Bass's birthday and by god Blair was going to throw him a party.

By the time sunset arrived a section of the beach had been turned into a party zone. Green silk curtains had been hung up to help define the party space (and provide some privacy for anyone who wanted it). There were tables of food and drink entirely moddable which included Chuck's favorites and product-placed Vitamin Water as well as the birthday cake.

Music was playing, fires were lit to help keep things warm - all in all not a bad little birthday party on the beach.

All that remained was the party goers and the birthday boy.

[ocd is up!]

Griff sent a little awkward wave in Fiona's direction, trying to be normal and casual despite how nice she looked in that dress. It wasn't working very well.

She waved back before looking around and deciding to walk over.

"Griff. Hello."

"Hi," he said, finding the word very safe and easy to say. "You look..." And then all the other words slipped away.

She was waiting for a descriptor and since he didn't provide one, she looked down at herself trying to figure out what he was going to say.

Awkward?

Shiny?

Green?

She pulled the wrap a little closer.

"So," she started, deciding to leave him to finishing his own sentence, "do you know the person having a birthday?"

"Nice!" Griff found the word eventually and then wondered about her question. "I, uh, don't. Think they'll boot me? I wore green."

Re: Mingle!

She shook her head.

"If they do, they'll boot me too," she confided in him, leaning a little closer conspiratorially.

"And thank you. Green suits you."

"Least I'll have a friend to hobble home with," he replied, smiling. "Green must be universal then."

Griff needed more practice in being complimentary.

A friend. Well, that was nice to hear.

"I don't know. If I was a little more pale, it might just make me look sickly."

...Fiona needed practice taking compliments.

"Thankfully not."

She gave him a smile.

"I wouldn't mind walking home with you, though. You could tell me about Mexico."

Walking home? Griff tried to work out if that was a sign for something and decided no, he'd read too many books.

"And in turn, you could tell me about wine country."

She laughed a little.

"I wouldn't be able to tell you much; just what the tourists talked about while they were eating at Ringos. I never got to travel up there, really."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but already he could find conversation in what she said. "Ringos? Were you a worker or a regular patron? The name makes me crave onions."

"Where I worked. It wasn't the best place in the world, but the pizza was supposed to be very good."

She'd never had it, unfortunately.

He considered the picture of her working at a pizza shop in his mind.

"Supposed to be? You weren't fond of it?"

"I never got to eat it," she explained.

"My Mother didn't want us having it and our manager was kind of a jerk."

He cocked his head remembering the fit his mum had once when she caught him sugaring his cereal. "Parents are like that, I suppose. You've had other pizza though, right?"

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook her head.

"I've never had pizza. I've never had a lot of things."

She shrugged.

"Food isn't really all that important to me, I guess."

Especially not now.

He had dined in a different country or city for every meal before Fandom, so her remark intrigued him. Of course, he'd never had anything better to do than find fantastic places to buy or consume food in between karate classes.

"Why's that?"

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely. It is once again Fiona-is-a-freak time.

"I can't eat anything. Everything tastes of sawdust to me and it doesn't actually do me any good."

She looked away.

"I know it's weird, even for this place."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. He was brilliant. "You know, my first day here, someone told me we were all weird. I take that to mean if we're all weird then really none of us are."

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She looked over at him with what she was totally unaware was a hopeful smile.

"Do you really think that?"

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
She had no idea how potentially weird he was, so he smiled and nodded. "I do. Here, it seems differences unite us."

Unless you're Karev and a complete bastard.

She would second that and third it (Eliot in absentia) and then move to take the issue to the floor.

"Are you different, Griff?" she asked with a little smile. Part teasing, but she was also curious.

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] youcantfollow.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd have to be to be here, right?" Griff replied vaguely.

Re: Mingle!

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
She raised an eyebrow.

"If you don't want to say, just say 'I'd rather not say'," she told him, and though she was a little annoyed, her tone was still somewhat gentle.

"We've all got secrets, I suspect. Friends should be able to respect that. I know I will."

And there it was. No one had ever asked outright. Only three people had even been told before. Three people who were under surveillance because he'd gone to the dentist.

"It's more a matter of safety and following the rules." Rules made by dead people. "What I do--I haven't tried it here."
