Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Jake laughed. "Dude, if I got a superhero costume, it'd be all black to go with the name. And maybe in leather." But that was for reasons that had nothing to do with being a superhero and all with the way a particular girl seemed to like it.

Well, Jono would have had no trouble attesting to the fact that he was biased towards black leather for similar reasons.

"Well, it can be helpful if you need to distract people," Jake mused, "but its still yellow. I should not be considering a superhero costume. Especially not since I'd have to tear it any time I got to the fighting. That'd just cost too much."

Jono spent about a moment too long wondering how exactly the Hulk managed to keep those purple shorts of his from being mutilated in horribly indecent ways every time he went big and green.

He kept those thoughts to himself. A wolf in shorts would be fairly absurd, too.

He'd been intelligent, for a start. And annoyed. But nobody had needed to pony-sit him. So it probably didn't count.

"Man, I'd almost forgotten you got to see me like that," Jake said, for a moment remembering Rosalind and there was a girl he'd been trying hard not to think of. It tended to put him in a foul mood.

"I'd say that turning into an animal is kind of awesome, but I don't think I count either. I've done the whole being stuck and being unable to turn back thing, it's kind of annoying."

He was kind of stuck, himself. But that was just a single statement away from slipping into melancholy, and Jono wasn't about to let himself slide that far so early in the evening.

Jake shook his head. "I have no idea, man. Caroline's on StuCo, but we were off island when they made the decision. I'm kind of amazed she hasn't thrown a fit and tried to hijack the whole thing. Maybe the Fall break trip went to their heads or something."

"Oh god, didn't Valentine look like they blew up cotton candy?" Jake tried to remember. Valentine sounded about right to be a pink explosion. "But hey, I'm not complaining about the food. That stuff smells good."

He winced when he remembered. "Sorry."

Jake nodded. "Hey, at least you don't have to smell what the cheap cologne is hiding. These things can so end up in sensory overload."

He made a face, quickly banning other scents from his mind. "So are you planning on doing a lot of dancing?"

Why the hell not? He had fairly good rhythm, and he did still enjoy dance clubs and the like, even if he was mostly prone to lurking, these days.
