Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

"Only two choices in the universe?" Rose asked, amused by his forthrightness. "I'm doing my bodyguard thing." She smiled warmly. "Keeping Liss safe from all the idiots out there."

"Well, I already ran through fugitive, prisoner, soldier, thief, athlete and freedom fighter. I'll take being land owner for now," Zayne mused. "But the bodyguard thing at least sounds stable."

"Stable and often boring with flashes of kicking ass. I can handle it. I did the fugitive and prisoner thing," she pondered. "It was disappointingly not nearly as much fun as you'd think from the movies. Did it work that way for you too?"

"I came out of it with some good friends," Zayne said. "So it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Also, I lived. So there's that, too."

Rose nodded, grinning up at him. "I'm glad you lived, dammit. Otherwise I'd've been pissed, and this whole reunion thing would suddenly be weird."

"'m glad I was able to keep the party lively by being able to show up," Zayne joked. "It's actually kind of a weird feeling, but my life hasn't even been threatened in a few months. I'm not really used to that being a normal state of affairs anymore."

"Oh, not at all. It's just a change of pace to have my life threatened once every couple months instead of two or three times a week," Zayne said. "But it's going to happen eventually anyway."

Rose nodded, slightly more serious. "It's a weird change of pace, huh. It's been like that for the past two months at home. Ever since Lissa was crowned, things are way more stable. Weird."

"It's probably really obvious that we're not normal people, isn't it?" Zayne joked. "Normal people wouldn't find these lulls so bizarre."

"Actually, that's what my mom does for a living," Zayne said, slightly sheepishly. "But the point still stands."

"Oh God, I didn't mean it like that," Rose said, totally embarrassed at the whole foot-in-mouth syndrome. "I'm just pretty sure I don't have patience or anything that would let me deal with plants...or things that are alive. Or...Okay, I'm not helping myself so much here."

"I solemnly swear not to say anything bad about bankers," Rose decided, holding up her right hand to emphasize that whole solemnity. "What if I just insult knitters? Will that work? OOh, how about those people who do the macrame planter holders?"

Not about not knowing what macrame was. If they had it in his galaxy, it was kept far, far away from him.

"My dad's a total mobster who blew up half the Court," Rose offered. "Since the jokes pretty much write themselves, you can totally have fun with that."

He blew up half the Court to break her out of prison but details.
