Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

More like a hot date who was focussed on making sure everything was in order and Jake was compensating by stuffing his face or he'd start sulking.

"Well, they made sure you're going to be good for at least a year," he pointed out.

"You are seriously not wrong," she said, shaking her head as she observed the decorations again. "Also there's this whole obsession with America's Hat. I'm pretty sure I don't get it."

"Could be, but I missed it too," Jake said. He'd been busy destroying werewolf packs. "It'd explain a lot, though."

It wasn't like she could deny that. "I'm just hoping that the whole red moose thing is real and not some weird figment of someone's imagination," Rose decided. "So which one is your hot date?"

Jake raised an eyebrow as he realised that no, Rose didn't know that the whole weird weekend had kind of stuck.

"Caroline," he replied. "No need to ask who yours is."

Rose didn't even try to hide the surprise and amusement at that. "Really? That's..." she was almost laughing but not quite. "Just a warning, if she calls me leathery again, I'm kicking her ass."

Her eyes found Dimitri's figure by habit and the smile softened. "Yeah, well, I don't know how that happened either."

"Don't expect me to try to stop her from kicking yours," Jake warned, shaking his head. "So nothing's going on with your queen?"

"Like I'd ever expect you too," Rose snorted. Please, why would she want someone to break up a fight? Especially since she didn't actually have plans to start one even if the l-word came out. "Sorry to shatter your fantasies, Jake, but that's so never going to happen."

"Hey, apparently it's not impossible," he pointed out. "That stuff wasn't all rubbish. It showed potential."

She did notice he didn't deny the fantasies. Rose quirked a tiny smile. "Maybe there's potential. But I'm pretty damn happy with the current situation."

Oh God, she was such a mushy girlfriend. How did it get to this?

Like denying anything had ever worked on her. "Good for you then," he said honestly. "Even if I know you're still pining for you, but I'm taken so you'll just have to settle."

Rose laughed and patted his arm consolingly. "You're hot in a suit but way too young for me." And she liked the guys with an accent.

"Very much taken?" she teased, looking amused. If she'd heard from Morgana anytime recently, she'd have had to make some sort of joking threat on behalf of her old roommate. "I seriously have to meet this Caroline for real. I thought you were allergic to words like that."

Morgana had left without a word so maybe it was good she'd dropped the threat.

"I think you're confusing me with yourself now," he replied. "I don't mind being taken, and I think you can't claim you do either."

"I think he's just about as whipped as you are," she teased, tossing back her hair. Which could be taken a bunch of different ways, sure. But after two years - with a big break for crazy evilness - she didn't have to protest the 'boyfriend' label. "So...how whipped are you?"

The look Rose turned on him was skeptical. "Oh don't worry, I will." The look dissolved into a smirk. "Cause Jacob Black, willing to be nice. That's just impressive."
