Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Oh Jake, there's a reason she's not requiring you to move while dancing. "Uh huh. It's nice and free of jumping."

Because she was liking snuggling him all close! It had nothing to do with his dancing skills. He could so pull off a slow dance.

"See? I'm not that bad at dancing," he said. "And the jumping was kind of fun."

"Yes, but this dress, so doesn't do jumping." Had he failed to noticed? "Or flipping. Or splits. It barely does dips."

"Oh, it does," Jake argued. "Just not in public where anyone not me can see."

He laughed and leaned his head down to kiss her cheek. "Have I told you how beautiful you look?"

"Not like that," she answered, smiling at the way he said it. "Does that mean you appreciate the full effect now?"

"The full effect of having you pressed against me?" he wondered. It was kind of good the chaperones were only there for form or they'd have made them split up already.

"Yes," she said, her hands sliding up the front of his shirt to hook around the back of his neck. "You seem much more interested now."

"I wasn't interested enough earlier?" he asked. His hands rubbed over her hips and he had to fight the urge to lift her up and bring her level with him.

"No, you had a different look on your face," she decided. Probably one that said he wasn't looking forward to other people appreciating her dress.

Right. He leaned his head down, his eyes tracing along the curve of her shoulder, knowing how soft her skin would feel underneath his fingertips.

"I missed you today."

Jake hummed and he leaned down to press a kiss to her shoulder, his hands sliding up her back to pull her a little closer. "What are you doing tomorrow?"

"Well, there's a whole brunch thing and it's Sunday so I was thinking--oh, duh, you're asking like you have an idea. What are you thinking?" She understood cuing sometimes. Sometimes.

He leaned his head down to meet her eyes, his hands holding her a little tighter to keep her from sliding off his feet. "I'm thinking we could spend the day together. Go to the mainland or something and you know, celebrate. Just the two of us."

"We don't have to go anywhere to spend the day together," she reminded him. "We could just stay au natural in various areas of my room..."

Jake snorted and he leaned his forehead against hers. So that sounded kind of fun too. "You don't want to go anywhere special for our anniversary?" he asked quietly.

"Isn't everywhere we go special?" Caroline asked, nudging his nose with hers. Jake was good at making her feel special no matter where they were.

He smiled and nudged her nose with his, his hands rubbing circles down her back. "It is," he agreed softly.

"So you can take me to the cliff," she decided, keeping it simple, close, and completely free while still a place she smiled anytime she thought of the memory. You know, when she wasn't blushing at how forward she'd been.

Jake grinned, face lightning up at her choice and he quickly kissed her. "I like that," he whispered.

"It's the anniversary of that night, right?" Caroline pointed out. "So it makes sense. Even if the water's too cold."

"I could even come prepared this time with blankets and towels and swimwear," she teased, feeling seriously pleased that he continued to grin at the thought of recreating that night. "And ask you annoying questions to get to know you while you kept me warm."

"Swimwear feels like cheating," he teased, because he'd kind of liked how unprepared she was and where it had led to. Which was seriously not something he should think of right now, even if she would hide his reaction.

"You just liked how sheer normal underwear got when wet, I know." Caroline had been the one encouraging him to look at the time, after all. "Even if it was followed by me coming on a little strong."
