Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Caroline might not have looked like a whole lot, but her vampiric nature put a little something on her side and so her smug attitude remained. "At least I managed not to match the decor when I was getting ready today. Or maybe you're just super patriotic for America's top hat!"

Oh fuck. Caroline was suddenly seriously concerned for her life. Or unlife or whatever this was.

She hoped Rose would chalk her surprise up to the typical shock of anyone who hadn't expected that phrase. "You know I've heard not all vampires are bad! Do you distinguish between them in your work? Or is that why you're friends with Jake?"

"It's the old age," Caroline told her. "Can't be good for the hunting." God, she seriously needed a drink now that she knew there were vampire murderers in town.

She just didn't happen to want to or enjoy killing humans.

"So maybe you should keep your skank flirting away from my boyfriend, who was my husband or whatever!" And if Rose knew what was good for her, she would so not be looking Caroline in the eye right that moment because Caroline's intensity was a little out of control.

Sorry, Rose was too busy cracking up at Caroline's rage. "Seriously. I have no interest in your...in Jake. Not now, not in 20 years. What the hell would I do with someone two feet taller than me?"

See, now about 18 inches was perfect.

It wasn't rage so much as shrillness and frustration and a serious need for the evening to be over! "Oh please, like you have to ask." Her eyes and facial expression was making some seriously dirty implications.

Caroline's brow started furrowing at that. "So how did you mean?" She bit her tongue to stop from telling her there was no need to speak up since she wasn't the one with hearing issues.

Rose shook her head, half-laughing at herself and half-just laughing. She turned to point to the gigantic Russian somewhere behind her (so what if he'd been behind her, she knew where he was). "My boyfriend."

Okay, so yes it was hard to miss the guy towering over the vast majority and damn, did she not mind noticing him, especially when it set her rather free from worry there, assuming she could remember that Rose was a murderer. "Ooooh, wow, that's gotta be complicated." Because really. "Do you like, hop a lot?"

"That would be too easy," Caroline said with a little laugh. "No, we were friends. Or really, I insisted we were friends and he said we weren't because he was secretly into me and disturbed by it. Shh, I just found out that last part." And why was she sharing it with Rose? Probably because she would open her gaping trap to anyone who asked.

Sigh. Just like with Katherine.

Rose snorted. "He probably went through all that crap about how he can't be around you cause you 'smell like a leech,' right? When he dated my old roommate, he used to give her crap about how our room smelled like that cause of me. Glad you finally got him over it."
