The Park, Saturday Evening

During the afternoon, workers had built up a large firepit in the center of the park. Smaller ones were built a short distance away from it, just to make sure nobody froze during the festivities.

There was ice on the pond, thick ice, and someone had set up a small booth alongside it renting out skates for the night. Closer to the bonfire, there was a buffet, partly already cooked (and with cocoa, too!), partly set up with raw meat, fish, marshmallows and vegetables for the more enterprising crowd who might want to roast something over one of the fires.

Lights hung in the trees, and the fires blared merrily. Fandom was ready for the changing of the years, and all were welcome.

The way down to the party is well-lit with tiny yellow and white lights along the way. Do dress warmly - it's still more than a little cold out.

Cara's leathers were more than warm enough to stand the cold, especially considering the prospect of fires, which frankly were the main thing drawing her down to the park, rather than spending the evening in the gym or her room.

Nathan's skinny frame was going to take a lot of layers to make him warm but he had a disguised flask in his pocket that he figured would more than help him warm up a little later.

For now, he had some cocoa in his hand and even if he felt like a fucking pansy, he had to admit that it was pretty fucking good.

There were bonfires (and more free food)? Mercy was there. It may have been cold, but compared to winter in Aspen Creek, it was nothing.

Ender made his way down, wrapped up in a thick coat (IF-issued, of course) and looking, if not outright cheery, at least pretty content for his standards. He took a moment to get a good look at who else was here, then headed towards the fires.

Peter came down relatively late. Most of his contacts had gone to sleep, and the rest had gone to celebrate, and, well. He wasn't feeling lonely or anything, honest.

He was just hungry.

Natalie had no problem dressing warmly. She was used to worse and honestly, she liked a little bit of chill in the air. She liked the dark, too, since it made the fires more vivid.

All in all, she was pretty content as she wandered around. Maybe she'd even skate, later.

Raven had a thick velvet skirt on under her cloak and high boots to protect her bare legs, so she wasn't feeling the cold so far. As it got later, that might change.

For now she was eyeing the frozen pond, wondering if she dared tried to skate, or if she could convince Jono to try it.

Angelica barely felt the cold, and she was wary enough to keep her distance from the duck pond. She'd melted ice sculptures by accident once, and she didn't want to send a bunch of people through the ice if she melted the pond.

Annie was so prepared for the cold, she was even wearing jeans. That's right, you didn't get Annie legs to look at tonight, due to the simple fact that she didn't want frostbite.

She was glad to be here, too. This would probably be at least a little smaller than the picnic, so maybe she'd get to meet some new people.

New Year's Eve at a private penthouse party in New York this was not, but Jeremy was happy all the same. It was sort of... quaint. In a good way.

Bundled up in warm yet stylish clothes, he snagged himself a mug of cocoa and wandered for a bit.

It didn't feel that cold to Juliet, but she was used to New York temperatures. It was an excuse to show off her cute winter coat and hat, anyhow.

She'd rather be at something a little more black-tie, but this was quaint and pretty and it was a party. She could manage.

Rilla wasn't planning to stay very long--the night air wasn't good for Jims and he still wasn't over the cold that had kept them both from attending the picnic yesterday, but if she had to stare at the walls in her room another day, she'd go crazy.

So there she was, dressed warmly (and with her distinctive green hat, sigh), looking for faces both familiar and new.

Bruce arrived wearing a very nice, very warm black coat and matching black gloves. He grabbed a cup of cocoa almost right away, mostly to give himself something to fiddle with until he decided to skate later.

Dressed in his Jedi robes, he headed down to the fires, missing the warmth of Naboo's nights already.

But at least no one would be able to see his sunburn in the dark?

Petra was dressed warmly, in a comfy tunic sweater and thick leggings with knee boots. If, instead of a scarf she had a feather boa, well, it was New Year's Eve, wasn't it? There had to be a little glam.

Gabrielle had a cloak and shoes on; did that count? It seemed to work well enough for her, anyway since the post didn't call for dramatic woobie-ish shivering.

Set up along long buffet tables not too far from the main bonfire, there's plenty of food to choose from, hearty stuff to get you through the winter. There's also cocoa, and for the more enterprising among you, there's a section dedicated to raw food to cook above one of the fires.

Cara had found a fire on the edge of the festivities and was sitting with her back to it so her eyes stayed somewhat adjusted to the darkness beyond the light up areas.

Yeah, she was never going to be very good at either being social or faking it.

The pond has frozen over! And one clever entrepreneur has rushed in to take advantage of it. You can rent skates here and go for a round on the pond, or brave it on your normal shoes...

It'd been over a year since the last time Dolf had gotten to skate properly. He didn't mind ponying up some of his hard-earned money for a pair.
