Impromptu Labor Day Beach Cookout, The Beach, Monday afternoon

It was the last day of the reunion and Jessica figured she needed to take a moment alone. Get some solitude, a place to be with her thoughts for a little bit, in a quiet place. The beach would work. Have some white noise from the water, what could possibly be more relaxing.

When she got there, food was already on the grill, the volleyball net was set up, and a pig was sitting next to a spit, eating from a trough. There had to be a story there. And wait, who started grilling food on a beach only to leave it, and a pig? If this was Fandom magic, it was really weird Fandom magic.

Anyway, alone-time apparently wasn't happening. She could settle for some BBQ as long as she avoided anything that might have come from that pig's family.

The Impromptu Labor Day Beach Cookout was on!

"I was hoping I'd find you," Mel said standing up to give her old watcher a bone crushing hug. "Now that kid on your shoulder looks mighty familiar but I didn't think it was that kind of weekend."

Well, Tahiri wasn't that much taller. Besides, if she was it was Jaina's fault, so ha.

"Good to see you," she said, still with the unrepentant smirk.

"You too. How's teaching?" Jaina asked, bumping the volleyball her way.

"That probably means you have more sense than a lot of us," Dick said. "So you have that going for you."

Dick hoped that he was covering up any residual bitterness toward Bruce with joking. But really, Bruce's recent relationship with Barbara just opened up way too many old wounds. Dick was planning on being bitter about that forever.

"So far, so good, even if it's only been one week." Tahiri awkwardly bumped the volleyball back; she hadn't seen the movie, and was really only following Jaina's lead here. "And boy, did the island come up with a big way to welcome us back, huh?"

This person looked vaguely familiar, so Jake gave him a nod.

"The zombie gremlins or the influx of everyone?" Jaina asked, returning the ball.

"Hey, Jake, right?" Peter checked. "You ran the paper with Chloe."

Tahiri totally cheated and Force-levitated the ball back to Jaina. Jedi-rules volleyball!

"Yes," she said, because that narrowed it down nicely. "I'm sorry I missed out on your grandfather's latest gremlin incident."

Because of course there had been one.

"It was pretty great," Jaina said, bouncing it back FOR REAL JEEZ TAHIRI. "I'm positive there'll be another one soon, because... I mean..."

"Yeah, that's me." Jake nodded. "You're... one of the Peters?"

"One of them," Peter said. "Peter Parker. I joined the paper staff second semester that year. I ended up running it during my senior year, actually."

"Nah," Xander said with a distracted grin, trying to keep Bronwyn's hands out of Mel's hair at the same time. "This one got here the natural way. Just two dudes, some donated mitochondria from one of their moms, a 30th Century DNA resplicer and a mutant-powered body double surrogate, like God intended."

"Oh, hey, awesome," Jake said. "Did you continue with the coffee pin ups?"

That might have been his proudest achievement in regards to the paper, yes.

"Well, Rory Gilmore followed you, so by the time I was in charge it was tradition. I had to keep it going," Peter said.

"You like my hair cutie?" Mel said looking up. "Play with it all you want. I don't mind."

She gave Xander an amused look. "You look good. Fatherhood suits you."

"Pee!" Bronwyn squeaked happily, reaching for the nearest, brightest strand.

"I'm mostly sure that's supposed to be 'pretty' and not a diaper-related announcement," Xander said, eyeing his daughter just in case. "I'd say take it as a compliment."

"It's important to keep traditions alive," Jake nodded, pleased.

"You're not still a coffee-based journalist, are you?" Peter asked. "If you were, that would be pretty fantastic."

Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] istherecoffee.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Jake grinned. "No, but still coffee related. I run a coffeeshop on a small island called Arcadia."

He'd never thought about where the coffee came from before, and he was trying really hard not to think about it now. The coffee just seemed to appear, as if by magic.

"What about you? Anything coffee or journalism related?"

"I'll take it that way," Mel agreed. "Have you seen Dawn yet? She's apparently dating another version of you. Kind of freaks me out. I can't picture you being with anyone other than Bridge."

RE: Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Arcadia?" Peter asked. "Wait, I've heard rumors about a place named that somewhere outside of Arachnia. I didn't know anyone else from Battleworld went to Fandom. I blog about the government of my domain, Arachnia."

Baron Osborn was a little sketchy on what exactly existed beyond the walls of Arachnia, but Peter heard things now and then. Mostly from people who disappeared very quickly afterwards.

[identity profile] istherecoffee.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Jake hazarded a guess. "That's the one with all the spiders?"

He too was a little hazy on what existed outside his domain. Even though Baroness She Hulk was much nicer than Baron Osborn. Probably. At least after she'd had her morning coffee.

"It's weird though, because I didn't even remember going to Fandom High until Krycek shoved me through the portal. I didn't even remember Krycek." Jake paused. "I do now though. Obviously."

RE: Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. "Is it kind of like you have two different set of memories right now?" Peter asked. "Like, you can remember your whole past on Battleworld clearly, but it doesn't really make sense with a lot of your Fandom memories?"

Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] istherecoffee.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes exactly!" Somebody who understood! "Like, I remember running a coffeeshop for years -- but I also remember being a courier for years, and going to school here, which should be impossible, but." Jake made a helpless gesture. He blinked as a thought struck him. "Oh man, I hope I'm not going to forget again when I go home."
