Impromptu Labor Day Beach Cookout, The Beach, Monday afternoon

It was the last day of the reunion and Jessica figured she needed to take a moment alone. Get some solitude, a place to be with her thoughts for a little bit, in a quiet place. The beach would work. Have some white noise from the water, what could possibly be more relaxing.

When she got there, food was already on the grill, the volleyball net was set up, and a pig was sitting next to a spit, eating from a trough. There had to be a story there. And wait, who started grilling food on a beach only to leave it, and a pig? If this was Fandom magic, it was really weird Fandom magic.

Anyway, alone-time apparently wasn't happening. She could settle for some BBQ as long as she avoided anything that might have come from that pig's family.

"Nah," Xander said with a distracted grin, trying to keep Bronwyn's hands out of Mel's hair at the same time. "This one got here the natural way. Just two dudes, some donated mitochondria from one of their moms, a 30th Century DNA resplicer and a mutant-powered body double surrogate, like God intended."

"You like my hair cutie?" Mel said looking up. "Play with it all you want. I don't mind."

She gave Xander an amused look. "You look good. Fatherhood suits you."

"Pee!" Bronwyn squeaked happily, reaching for the nearest, brightest strand.

"I'm mostly sure that's supposed to be 'pretty' and not a diaper-related announcement," Xander said, eyeing his daughter just in case. "I'd say take it as a compliment."

"I'll take it that way," Mel agreed. "Have you seen Dawn yet? She's apparently dating another version of you. Kind of freaks me out. I can't picture you being with anyone other than Bridge."

"Yeah, we met up at the gremlin party, and may I say I kind of miss being able to make statements like ---excuse me BUH?"

"Buh!" Bronwyn echoed happily, pleased that daddy was using words she could easily repeat.

"Tell me about it," Mel said laughing at Bron. "See? She doesn't see it. And meanwhile she got weirded out that I'm hanging with a guy who looks like Bridge."

Totally not true of course.

"I repeat, buh. What happened to So--" Xander stopped, waited politely for Bronwyn to finish Buh-ing again, then pointed at Mel sternly. "Oh, I see how it is. You're just screwing with me to get me back because my kid thinks you have pee-hair. Nice one; you had me going for a second."

"I don't think I fooled her though," Mel said laughing at Bronwyn. "And yeah, Sokka ended up going home to Avatar land because he had his own overblown sense of responsibilities. Ran into him earlier. He got way older than me and... well he's happy. Meanwhile I'm still me, running around with a scythe and a six armed demon monkey who used to be a watcher. It's a living."
