Prom, Community Center, Friday Evening

It was possible that the strange creatures that had invaded Fandom last week were still on everyone's mind when the Student Council had designed the decorations for Prom. Glittery cardboard animal-hybrid monsters awaited everyone as they arrived to the community center, and made their way inside along a blue and yellow carpet flanked by glowing, glittery red eyes.

Nothing in the decorations looked like a rabbit though. Some memories were just too much to make fun of.

If Dante had led with the glitter booze, Isabela probably would have been too buzzed to freak out.

Isabela's grin was far less easy than her usual. "I mean the part where he thinks you and I should play house this summer."

Ada just sort of...blinked. At Isabela.

"I said that if'n I knew I could have a roommate I got on with as well as he got on with Anders, I'd be tempted t' put in for a new one," she said. "He suggested you, but I didn't think he meant it! I thought he was makin' a joke 'bout havin' his favorite girls in one spot."

She glanced over her shoulder towards where she'd last seen him. "He brought it up t' you, too? Weird."

At least Isabela was there to be blinked at, her first instinct had been to flee the island entirely. That was a completely normal reaction, right?

"Maybe the blondeness bleached his brain too."

Ada just smiled and shook her head. "I think he's just fussin' 'cause he realized we're graduating," she said fondly. "An' he worries -- even if he don't admit it so good -- so he's tryin' t' find 'subtle' ways t' make people happy."

"Don't get me wrong, you're smart an' pretty an' sharp as a con, an' you're family, but we'd drive each other nuts if'n it was longer than for one of those little week-long vacations."

Isabela relaxed fractionally. "He could have warned a girl first."

"Says th' girl that surprised me with a foursome at one dance," Ada laughed, leaning in to nuzzle Isabela's neck.

"That was completely different," Isabela argued, obligingly tilting her head and running her hands over Ada's back. "Sex is a lot more fun than domesticity."

Ada just laughed. "We could be ninety-nine years old and ain't either of us ever gonna be domestic," she replied. "You're a pirate and 'm a carnie."

Isabela traced her nails over Ada's scales. "All the more reason not to threaten us with it."
