The Beach, Monday afternoon

After classes were over (or roughly, it wasn't like he kept track like some kind of creeper), he put on his favorite Hawaiian shirt from the Shenanigans--the Hot Dog Bigfoots--and headed down to the beach.

In a little while, there were four fires roaring merrily: three on different grills with a variety of meats, one sequestered just for pork products, and one for vegetarian options. Steve'd even sourced some fresh ahi again and was feeling particularly pleased with himself about that.

The fourth fire was a cute little bonfire with neatly stacked rejected Shenanigan shirts placed a safe distance from it, along with buckets of water and sand for fire safety (and because McGarrett had 100 percent been a Boy Scout).

There were coolers of drinks including one of beer with a sign--"If you are from the HS and take a beer at a cop party, you're dumber than we thought and are v sad for you"--as the only disincentive.

Come on down, Fandom! Say goodbye to the summer. Eat food, drink beer, get rid of polyblend if that's your thing...

After his clinic shift had ended, Stark had gone back to his apartment to change into one of the shirts he had picked out the week he'd been in charge of shenanigans and then headed to the beach.

Steven gave a wave when he spotted Stark. "Hello. Was wondering if you might be able to drop by. Work and all."

Steven had even been debating whether to make a plate to bring to the clinic, in fact.

"I'll go back if they need me," Stark said. Of course any injuries were likely to occur here with the bonfire so he might be of more use on the beach than in the clinic. "But it was quiet today. unless something real weird happens."

"Hello, Steven."

"How are you?" Steven asked. "Last week wasn't too bad for you, was it?"

Asking made Steven realize it'd been a week since the luggage. Time certainly flew. Some days it felt like 17 years could go by before you knew it.

"I got shot, a little," Stark said. "But I'm fine."

He really needed to stop phrasing it that way. And yet.

"The luggage was...the same as it was the last time. I don't need reminders. I'm not going to forget any of it. And the flames were upsetting, some of the time. How are you?"

Because Stark was mostly used to these sort of things happening and Steven was still new.

"Fire was surprising but -" Steven paused as he realized what Stark had said. "Sorry, did you say you got shot? Are you all right?"

Yes, Stark had said he was fine but still.

"In the arm," Stark said, waving his left hand at the arm in question. "When I went to help Rey. It's fine. Mostly. Almost better." Bacta was good stuff!

"Will made sure to look at it. Travis made sure I rested. I'm fine."

"If you're sure," Steven said. He'd missed everything going on with Rey but he assumed she wasn't the one who shot Stark. Steven didn't know her well but she'd seemed nice. "Glad Travis took care of you. Things going well there then?"

Rey would never! Not on purpose anyway.

"He was...upset that I came back injured." Which tended to happen when people showed up saying they'd gone to space and gotten shot. "And the fires on Friday were difficult." For a few reasons.

"One came about while I was with Llewellyn," Steven said. Then, with full offense to the island even though the injury had been nothing more than a bruise, "He got hurt."

"Is he alright?" Stark asked, frowning in concern. "There were a lot of them. The flames. On my mask, once. Travis's coat. All over the fire station."

Which was fun for someone who remembered Travis and the station catching fire on a day that kept repeating.

"Sore, but managing, cheers," Steven said. He looked worried. "On your mask? Are you all right? The one we had didn't burn but that light couldn't have been good for your vision, surely?"

"I didn't know it was there until he knocked me down," Stark said. Which hadn't felt great for his arm but it was fine. "I couldn't feel it, or see it."

Oh, people she knew! Perfect. It would be an awkward part at all.

"Is that a burger planet?" Okay, so maybe she got a little easily distracted there.

"It is," Stark confirmed, looking down at his shirt. "I don't think it's real but Summer might know of one." Summer knew of a lot of very odd planets. "But she's never mentioned a burger planet."

An ice cream one, he thought, and a boob planet, but he wasn't going to just blurt that out.

"That's still weird, right?" She wasn't just being a very non-hip human, right?

"It is," Stark said, nodding. "We don't have anything like that where I'm from." His universe had a planet full of lawyers but he hadn't been around for that.

"Summer lives an odd life." That was an understatement. "Have you met her yet?"

"I have," Jane said brightly. "I think I got on her good side for letting her know you mentioned her to me. So, thank you for that."

"I didn't make it to the bar on Wednesday." He'd been resting. "That's good. Summer is a good person to know. A good friend to have. We're teaching two classes together, this term."

Was that a euphemism for a hangover? Because she was going to end up with a complex that any new friends she met were getting pretty drunk around her.

"Intro to this place and I don't think I heard about the other one?"

Stark had not been drunk or hungover at all. Just a little bit shot.

"A food class, at the community center. Tuesdays. Like Chopped?" It was going to be scarring!

"Oh! Well, that sounds like a lot of fun. Do people come watch then?" Because she'd come watch.

"We missed the first week. We were in space trying to help Rey." Getting shot, nbd. "I suppose people could watch, if they wanted."

"The 'little war' that Anakin mentioned?" she asked, trying to put it all together with the little information she had.

"It didn't feel little at the time," Stark said, rubbing at his right arm without realizing he was doing it. "But yes. He was there too. A lot of us were. She needed help, so we went."
