Caritas, Wednesday evening

Jaina still wasn't exactly sure why she had this job, except it got the owner to shut up. And upon finding out there was going to be a wedding reception here (and hey, didn't she meet Deadpool? she had no idea he was married), she really wasn't happy. Regardless, she set up the best she could, considering she'd never seen what a party here was supposed to look like.

She was trying to think of it in terms like "If this doesn't turn me to the dark side, I'm doing pretty good."

[Up omg early for party.]

Roy grinned and sat back down. "Perhaps you should ask Aly if she wants to help out," he suggested.

"I'll see if I can get any tips from her," replied Mary.

Her tone changed to a more serious one. "I am glad that I caught you here today. I had some concerns about security at the hotel. I know you haven't been sheriff that long yet, but I was wondering if you'd heard about anything unusual happening there before."

He immediately turned more serious at the question. "Unusual how?" he asked, trying to remember the files he'd read that involved the hotel. "I know there's been a couple of fights over there, but no one ever got arrested for it."

"Maybe I'm just being paranoid since casino security in Las Vegas is pretty excessive like everything else," began Mary. "Still, I'm worried that people might be able to get in and out of the hotel without my staff noticing. There were some students who were able to 'borrow' some pillows from empty guest rooms for a scavenger hunt, not to mention some other odd occurrences in my suite."

Roy frowned a little. "I could have a look around," he offered. "It's not exactly my expertise but..."

"Thanks," said Mary, feeling just a little bit better. "I have friends in Vegas that specialize in security, but I'm just not ready to talk to them yet. One of them is my ex, and I think I should really keep my distance from him right about now. Plus I don't think they'd believe me if I told them what I was worried about."

He nodded in understanding, but did wonder at the last part. "What exactly are you worried about?" he asked. "So I know what specifically to look for."

"Well," began Mary, "part of me wonders if I'm just imagining it, but there have been several instances where I've woken up in the middle of the night and gotten the distinct impression that there was someone else in the room with me. I haven't really seen anything, but one night I'm sure I saw the outline of something, but when I turned the lights on, it was gone. At first I thought I was just imagining things. Then after the scavenger hunt, I realized that there was little to actually stop someone from walking into guest rooms."

She sighed. "Sometimes I still think I'm just freaking out over nothing. The hotel is an old building and it seems creepy at times," she added.

"And it's better to be safe than sorry," Roy added. He was frowning having listened to her explanation. "When would you have time for me to drop by?"

"I may have to get back to you on that since I'm going to New York with some friends this weekend while the mun is going out of town anyway," said Mary. "It's nothing really urgent, though," she added quickly. She usually wasn't one to ask for help with her problems but she really felt that she could trust the sheriff.

And she was ready for a change of topic before she started freaking again over the incidents at the hotel. "So, do you know the happy couple?"

[I'm going out of town this weekend and I need to double-check whether I'm coming back on Monday or Tuesday. Either way, I'm using up some extra vacation days before I go back to work.]

"Alright, but you should definitely call me if anything happens again," Roy suggested before allowing the subject change. "I actually don't. The hostess invited me with the promise that it should be fun."

"Weddings are always fun," said Mary, who was always a hopeless romantic.

"I'm going to take your word for it," Roy decided, a bit amused.
