Caritas, Wednesday evening

Jaina still wasn't exactly sure why she had this job, except it got the owner to shut up. And upon finding out there was going to be a wedding reception here (and hey, didn't she meet Deadpool? she had no idea he was married), she really wasn't happy. Regardless, she set up the best she could, considering she'd never seen what a party here was supposed to look like.

She was trying to think of it in terms like "If this doesn't turn me to the dark side, I'm doing pretty good."

"Welcome then. I think the church has been woefully untended since the last resident left." She nodded, smiling mischievously. "Two teachers up at the school. It was last month actually, but I thought we needed a celebration."

There was a school here, Gabriel noted. "Oh, I hear work is a good place to meet." He tried to say that without the sarcasm being to obvious. "And yes, the church doesn't seem to attract visitors." That suited him just fine. "Apart from all the squirrels."

It may not have been obvious, but it still got an eyebrow tilt from Aly. "Not much meeting people in the church business?"

"Oh, I've had too much of meeting people lately." He shook his head. "Old people," he corrected. "Not new people." He really tried to put some enthusiasm into that.

"Come here only to find people you already knew?" she asked. "It happens a lot."

"Really? How nice." Gabriel let his gaze wander around the room. "Anything else I should know about this place?"

"I think it might be one of those 'see it to believe it' type of places," Aly replied. "You wouldn't want that type of surprise spoiled."

"That all depends on the type of surprise," Gabriel replied, thinking about how he'd had enough of little surprises lately.

Gabriel shrugged. "You see, Aly, I've just escaped from a family reunion of sorts, one that turned out extremely bad, and I end up here and run into the black sheep of the family. I just don't like those kinds of surprises."

"Oh? Who's that?" she asked offhandedly. "It's actually a fairly common occurrence here, running into unexpected family members or friends. This place is a bit of a nexus for different worlds and timelines."

That comment sounded vaguely like something Lucifer had mentioned, and was slightly worrying. Gabriel didn't let any of this show though. "Really? And I had hoped for some peace and quiet," he said.
