Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Now Miley was a girl who could understand Caroline current predicament. "Miley! Please, you have to tell me that everything looks perfect because I swear, that Joni Mitchell moose is glaring at me and I am starting to loathe red and white just by virtue of standing her staring at it all! I mean, seriously, who picks Canada as a theme and then expects me to figure out how to make freaking glitter antlers work as decoration!" Okay, so her shrill was a hushed sort of shrill lest the rest of the council hear her dismay, but seriously, she needed someone to tell her it looked great.

Do you hear her Miley? GREAT.

Miley... had never realized just how her babbling must sound to others when she got on a tangent. But now she did. Wow. That was... a lot of words.

"Seriously, it is the best decor ever," she promised, not missing a beat. "I mean, don't get me wrong, whoever picked Canada seriously needs to talk to someone about their issues, but you guys totally did the best you could with it. Promise."

Caroline's grin of relief was huge and she was instantly opening her arms to hug Miley for her comment. It was totally the right local-BFF thing to say.

"You're seriously the best ever. Also, I might need to steal those shoes! So freaking cute!" How she'd managed to notice them in her freakout was anyone's guess.

Miley laughed and returned the hug. See, responding to babbling wasn't that hard. She totally didn't know what Lilly was always complaining about.

"I know, right?" she said, turning one foot this way and that to get a good look at the (totally awesome) shoe. "Giuseppe Zanotti. I had to bug my dad the whole time I was in LA to get them for me. Yours are totally cute too, BTW!"

"Thanks! I totally admit I'm wearing a rerun, but since it wasn't from Fandom it so doesn't count, right? It's like eco friendly clothing or something." That was a huge or something.

"Yeah, it's like a trendy recycling thing!" Miley laughed. God knew she wore that one animal-print yellow t-shirt as Hannah Montana enough times. "Plus, I heard from Bobby you did his wardrobe too, so some creativity went into it," she teased.

"You talked to Bobby?" Caroline grinned and got a really devious look on her face. "He looks super good, right? And he's really polite and smart and fun to hang around! So, you guys chatted?"

Yes, she was trying to sell her friend to her other friend. Someone needed to cue up the Matchmaker song from Fiddler.

Oh, Caroline, noooo. Miley was nearly seventeen, and Bobby was... not. It was just a terrible idea all around.

"Yeeeees," Miley said, squinting at her and trying to detect just what she was scheming. (As a fellow schemer, she knew the tell-tale signs.) "Oh, Caroline... Don't even."

"Fifteen!" Caroline argued, maybe understanding where Miley was coming from now that she heard that part. "God, you're almost seventeen?" She was starting to feel ancient at eighteen. "I seriously miscalculated that one."

It was a fair miscalculation. Half her icons were from when she was, like, twelve anyway.

"Yeah, on November 23rd," she reported. "Why, how old are you?" Waaaait. "Hang on, you're not one of those gazillion-year-old vampires who just looks young, are you?" That'd be super weird.

My time difference isn't so bad, 'cause it's, like, November at home -- actually, I should probably start getting birthday checks soon, score! -- but when it's a year, that gets complicated. But hey, you get to have extra birthday parties, right?"

"Still, it means I'm already way older than Jake and so there's really no reason to discount my good friend who would look totally adorable standing next to you at a dance, so there." Her smirk finished her fast-paced words before she elbowed Miley gently in an encouraging manner.

"Well, I would offer up a double date, but Jake would either be miserable or refuse entirely because he's no fan of Bobby's. Hmm. We could plan to hang out just the three of us and then I could just...leave suddenly?" Caroline offered. It was very high school- feeling.

Which, given that her latest interactions with anyone named Jack had been with Jack Carter, was not something she'd felt the need to say for a while. Sorry, Jack Carter.
