Glitter seemed to be a theme of the evening. There was glitter on the posters covering the walls, glitter on the plants printed on table cloths. Glitter on the fake full moon hanging in place of a mirror ball.

And of course, glitter on the banner hanging above the entrance.

Sparkle was quiet for a moment, himself, running one hand through his hair and sighing and wondering if now was too early to break into that flask that he'd stashed in his coat pocket.

"Yeah, yeah, fine," he replied, finally. "I'm just, you know, not in any hurry to get myself killed or something. Not really one of those things I make into habit."

"She wouldn't really do that," Alec said quietly. "Not unless you were a, a murderous demon and trying to kill me, I mean. She just... uses the intimidation to her advantage."

He thought Sparkle might understand that much, at least.

"I guess it's really convenient for her that she's got that, then, huh?"

Somehow, Sparkle didn't sound all that happy for her.

"Figures, I finally meet a guy who I actually do admit it to, and next thing I know his sister's shaking me down like some schoolyard bully because being queer means I'm automatically going to break your heart or some shit."

Because that's totally how relationships worked, right? Gay men to the left, pair off with the first one you meet, on the double.

Alec flushed. "It might not have been that," he ventured. "I haven't ever really had friends outside of her and Jace. It could have just as easily been a friend... issue."

He wasn't sure if he was certain of it, but it was just as possible as anything else.

"She should've known that we weren't really-- I mean, obviously."

"Obviously," Sparkle echoed, still sounding a little bitter. "She threatens all your friends, does she?"

Or even the one, really. Sparkle seemed pretty pissed.

Funny thing about Sparkle was that he could be pissed one moment, and your best friend the next.

It kind of helped that Alec seemed pretty sincere about not knowing that his sister was going to give him the nth degree like that.

"... You're shittin' me, right?"

Sparkle was truly an enigma, it was true.

"I'm going to start dragging your ass to parties," Sparkle informed him. "Get you out and socializing. Make you some friends. Maybe get you completely smashed at Caritas sometime."

That sounded so hard. Couldn't Sparkle just give him the cold shoulder for a few days like a normal person?

Okay, that was a bad reaction. Bad. Instead, Alec asked, "And that'll be a good thing for me?"

"Think of it as penance for unwittingly setting your mad-dog sister on me," Sparkle replied, smiling at him all innocent-like. "Fair, right?"

Look, she'd kind of scared the crap out of him. And now he needed to know if this was some sort of 'single out the gay kid' thing, or if all of Alec's friends were going to get shaken down over this.

... Plus Sparkle wanted him to make friends for his own good, too. Of course.

He'd have to wait till next Parents' Weekend to find out, wouldn't he? Unless Izzy took to making threats over the phone, but that wasn't really her style. She couldn't show off her curves that way, see.

"I suppose," Alec said dubiously. He wasn't about to say no, though, since, you know, Sparkle had had to deal with being scared half to death by a menacing Shadowhunter. "Just... a party at a bar?"

That sounded doable. Maybe.

"Sure, why not? Hang out with good people, drink good booze, have a good time. What's not to like?"

"I... nothing?" Nope, nope, he was pretty sure there was something. "We could do that, I guess."

"You sound dubious," Sparkle observed, informing Alec in a matter-of-fact sort of tone, in case he happened to be unaware of that fact.

"I've just never drank before," Alec said. "And I'm generally bad with groups. As a rule."

"Well, it's a stupid rule," Sparkle informed him. "I mean, I can get wanting to take a break from people now and again, but it isn't like one night in a bar is going to end you. And we can leave if you feel really uncomfortable, sure. I'll even make sure you don't drink anything that'll leave you puking the next day."

Because he was a truly thoughtful individual.

"Kickass," Sparkle crowed, throwing a fist in the air in a gesture that would totally strike confidence into the hearts of the people around him, sure. "It'll be a great time, you know. I'll make damn sure of that."
