Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants.

For the moment though, everything was set up nicely. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and gold tablecloths, each covered with glitter from years of use. There were balloons, streamers, and other slightly tasteful decorations, also covered in glitter from years of being stored with things that were also covered in glitter. Don't worry, no one had died from a glitter overdose yet.

Once the food was set out and the (non-tainted) punch was ready, it seemed like things were as good to go as they'd ever be. If things got too crowded, hopefully a fire marshal wasn't among the folks who had come back to town.

"I tend to turn up unexpectedly," he shrugged. "It's good to see you."

"You, too," she said sincerely. "Sooo... how've you been? And where have you been?"

"It's probably still better that you don't know," he said, voice low enough that it shouldn't carry. "I've been trying to find my family, mostly. I found my brother for a while, but...it didn't end well. Still trying to...fix things."

Finding out one's brother was a broken psychopath usually didn't. Especially when he died redeeming himself.

But, happier thoughts. "What have you been doing since I last saw you?"

"Uh, well." It wasn't anything she was particularly proud of. "Went to college, was kind of a private eye for a while, got Nothinged out of existence, got un-Nothinged back into existence, taught here some, went home, and now I work in a gift shop in Niagara Falls. It's totally important stuff."

Got nothinged out of existence? What did that mean? Normally, he'd have ~~stalked~~ done some research online, but he'd kind of been in a rush and, frankly, hadn't thought he'd see her. "That sounds like a lot of things. Do you like Niagara Falls? I hear it's beautiful."

"It's fine," she said. "I mean, that's where I grew up, and I stare at it all day, so I'm kind of immune. But, if you were ever in the area and wanted to see for yourself, it wouldn't suck to look at it a little longer."

"If it's safe, I'll try to call or text first." He smiled at Jaye. "It's really good to see you."

"You too," she said. "You're looking good, too. All that stuff you can't tell me apparently agrees with you."

"Uh, thanks." He wasn't sure how to take compliments. He had no practice at it. "It's not that I don't want to tell, Jaye, but I couldn't stand if they found out about you, and you got hurt somehow. But I'm getting closer."

"I get it," Jaye told him. And she did, because Jaye in Fandom had definitely had a type that she wouldn't find anywhere else. "Trust me, I am all for not getting hurt. Or known about."

"Thank you," he said, leaning in to kiss her cheek. "But maybe...postcards?" Those might work. If he wore gloves, and self-adhesive stamps, and didn't sign them, and mailed them from different places.... "Do you mind if I send you one, every so often, so you know I'm thinking about you?"

They probably wouldn't say anything, and they wouldn't be signed, but he'd really missed her.

"Yeah, that could work," she smiled. "I mean, I live in a trailer now, but the mail's surprisingly reliable."

"Then that's what we'll do," he decided, smiling back. "And you'll know. Unless you move."

He'd probably be able to find her.

"Yeah. You here all weekend?" Jaye asked. "Maybe we should do something."

"Hopefully?" With Fandom, who really ever knew. "I'd like that."

'Well, if you're still around tomorrow, let's do something. We'll figure it out then," she said.

"Sounds good."
