Come As You Were Dance, Community Center, Saturday Evening

Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants.

For the moment though, everything was set up nicely. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and gold tablecloths, each covered with glitter from years of use. There were balloons, streamers, and other slightly tasteful decorations, also covered in glitter from years of being stored with things that were also covered in glitter. Don't worry, no one had died from a glitter overdose yet.

Once the food was set out and the (non-tainted) punch was ready, it seemed like things were as good to go as they'd ever be. If things got too crowded, hopefully a fire marshal wasn't among the folks who had come back to town.

"Well, I would no like to be known as someone who does not show proper gratitude." And if Sparkle chose to believe that was the only reason he certainly wasn't very clever. Leto slipped a hand around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss, one of the kind he usually reserved for his wife.

Sparkle was discovering a whole new appreciation for glitter today.

A whole. New. Appreciation. Which he was going to show to Leto by kissing him back enthusiastically. The kind of kiss he reserved... for really hot guys who were a bit older than himself who kissed him like that, apparently.

Somewhere not far away, one of the ~~modded with permission~~ multitude of Buffies looked pleased about the glitter-boykissy success, indeed.

Unaware of any Buffies, Leto found that he had missed this; making out with an attractive stranger who clearly enjoyed it too. Pulling back a little, Leto slipped an arm around Sparkle's waist and said: "I will consider this a proper introduction, but I am not opposed to knowing your name. Although my sister will no doubt scold me if you are one of her students."

"I've at least graduated," Sparkle laughed, leaning in close and quite happy to stay put for the time being. "My name is Sparkle."

... No. Really. It actually was.

"Nice to meet you, too... uh...?"

Pretty guy with the epic eyes?

"A very appropriate name," he replied with a quiet laugh. "I'm Leto Atreides. I was a student here once, too."

He cupped a hand, this one almost covered with wormskin, around Sparkle's chin, and leaned in to kiss him again.

Please, everyone in the world pardon Sparkle for being halfway over the moon right about now? He'd had a long, hard week, and now he's being kissed, and kissed well, by a really pretty guy and-- like, okay, his hand was a bit different but different was practically the norm, around here.

Sparkle was kissing Leto back with enthusiasm and the world could burn down outside the door and that would be just fine because he was having a good night for the first time in way too long.

If Leto knew that he was making Sparkle's week improve in such a way he would have been pleased. Instead he was selfishly indulging himself in making out with this pretty new acquaintance, who gave him the kind of attention no one dared to at home apart from Alice.

"This just improved the evening considerably," he said finally, "And I thought I was enjoying myself before."

"You know, if more dances went like this, I probably wouldn't have spiked the punch all those times back when I was still in school," Sparkle mused. "I have zero complaints."

And that much more reason to really, really like glitter.

"My position at home rarely offers me opportunities like this," Leto said, an arm still wrapped around Sparkle. "Do you still live on the island, or have you returned for the celebration?"

"I'm kind of between homes at the moment," Sparkle replied, deciding Leto was quite welcome to keep that arm around him for as long as he wanted. Hiii. "But thinking about coming back maybe full-time. Wide-open options, you know? Fandom's still on the table and all that. What do you do at home?"

Leto cleared his throat. "I'm emperor of the Known Universe," he said. "As you can imagine a weekend in Fandom can be a most welcome holiday." After a brief pause, he added: "So, between homes? I hope that doesn't mean you are living in the streets."

Because he would be staying with Ghanima, unless there was another option, and while the twins were closer than most there were limits to what he could suggest. Provided, of course, that Sparkle was interested in more than kisses in public.

So, Leto had just earned himself a low whistle. Anywhere but Fandom, Sparkle would be immediately kind of calling bullshit, for obvious reasons.

Aaanywhere but Fandom. Here, it would have been stupid not to take him at his word.

"I'm not... no, not really living in the streets or anything," he hedged, after a moment. "I mean, I have places to crash if I need them."

Which was said in that sort of way that kind of suggested that this was a new and novel sort of thing, to him.

"Kind of starting to see how you'd like the chance to visit a place like this, though, yeah."

The reaction didn't surprise him, but Leto couldn't resist a grin. "Just having to introduce myself was a new experience when I first came here as a student. Visiting brings back good memories."

And clearly he could make new memories as well.

"Well, you know... nine days out of ten, this place is a pretty great place to be," Sparkle allowed. "Like mostly doesn't even try to kill the people here, that's a point in its favor."

Sparkle was mostly willing to give it a temporary pass because apparently glitter was amazing.

Leto certainly had no complaints about the glitter either. "And there are traditions to be spread, as you just have showed me. Have I thanked you properly yet?"

Sparkle wasn't even going to be subtle about the up and down look he gave Leto, then.

"I mean, it was nice. But I think a little more thanking couldn't possibly hurt."

What? Sparkle liked pretty things.

"I would not want to be considered ungrateful," Leto replied cheerfully, not minding the lack of subtlety at all. He leaned close again to offer Sparkle another kiss, while letting his fingers run through his hair.

Leto not wanting to be ungrateful was Sparkle's new favourite thing. Would it be too forward of him to loop an arm around Leto's waist and to cozy up nice and close for this kiss? Because that was exactly what he was going to do.

"I appreciate your dedication to showing your appreciation," he murmured. Because yessssssss.

Certainly not too forward. Leto came from a culture which practiced drug-fuelled orgies, after all.

"And I confess I appreciate this particular tradition, at least in present company," Leto replied between kisses.

"Yeah...?" Sparkle kissed a few more times, because hell yes, and then, in a fit of daring, because what did he have to lose? He asked, "Want to, I don't know... go somewhere for a while? We can come back ~~so as to not Joss other threads~~, but, you know... all of this not being ungrateful is pretty damn fun."

And Sparkle was all about being shameless. Sure, he had no idea where 'somewhere else' might be, since he had nowhere of his own to retreat to. But he figured, hey, if he was making out with the emperor of the known universe, they could figure something out.

"Clearly we think alike," Leto said with a grin. Oh, how he missed the opportunities Fandom offered. Ghanima would no doubt tease him later, but that would never make him hesitate. He released Sparkle, adding: "As you are the master of traditions here, I let you lead the way."

"Happily," Sparkle purred, stealing one more kiss for good measure before pulling away and leading Leto back toward the door.

... Did the hotel charge by the hour? Sparkle didn't actually have the spare money for it, but he'd figure that one out later if he had to. There were just some things that were completely worthwhile. You know. All in the name of tradition.

Should the question ever come up, the cost of a hotel room was not an issue for Leto and the only reason he hadn't arranged one was that he had planned to stay with Ghani and enjoy pizza and movies.

"Did you know I love surprises?" he said, following Sparkle. Sadly, they were very rare in his life these days, one of the disadvantages of prescience.

How in the world did knowing everything in advance not take all of the fun out of it?

"Well, then it's a good thing for Fandom glitter," Sparkle mused. "And hey, I love surprises, too."

Like how good Leto was at kissing. And that the glitter thing actually worked and that they were leaving the dance together. All of these things? Surprising. And a total win.

Sadly, it wasn't very fun, and Leto had four millennia of it ahead of him. That made good surprises like this even more precious.

"I'll think of something to surprise you with, then," he replied, laughing, his hand on Sparkle's arm.
