Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants.

For the moment though, everything was set up nicely. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and gold tablecloths, each covered with glitter from years of use. There were balloons, streamers, and other slightly tasteful decorations, also covered in glitter from years of being stored with things that were also covered in glitter. Don't worry, no one had died from a glitter overdose yet.

Once the food was set out and the (non-tainted) punch was ready, it seemed like things were as good to go as they'd ever be. If things got too crowded, hopefully a fire marshal wasn't among the folks who had come back to town.

The way Faith's eyes lit up at Dawn might be a good hint, which one she was.

"Dawnie," she said, reaching out to an arm to -- er. Was this a hug kind of moment? She wasn't great at those, and maybe it wasn't? It probably was, right?

She was hovering her arm a bit when she felt it necessary to add, "Wait, like, you don't think I'm evil or whatever, right?"

She'd spotted, like, two or three Buffies on her way in. But then, a Dawn who wanted to punch her probably would've just punched her, not looked at her all kinda hopeful like.

Dawn was a firm believer these days in hugging Faith as much as possible.

"Reformed evil. And really, who isn't with us?"

Faith might be awkward at giving hugs, but she never turned them down.

"You're not," she said. "Least you'd better not be. Rest of the group, some days I think we just passed the baton around."

She'd really hoped Buffy was evil, that one time, and she'd get to be the Good Slayer. Probably not the best to say that in front of Dawnie.

"How've you been? They been keeping you busy, with that whole Watcher thing?"

"Nope, not evil." Sadly, this was a check they still occasionally did back home. Although Andrew had gotten a little more...diplomatic about asking. Which was good. Plus, his left eyebrow had almost grown back!

Dawn shrugged. "Buffy and Xander are like this overprotective duo of crazypants sometimes, so I still get my sneaking skills in, but yeah. Me, Watching slayers who don't really need Watching, while I learn how not to kill them, or me, in the field. Or the library. Or the control room."

"Anyway, that's enough about me. What are you up to?"

"They totally need Watchers," Faith said. "Specially if they can't find their ass with both hands, or think they know it all, already. The ones who say they don't need Watchers, they need 'em the most."

Okay, maybe she'd wished, in looking back, that she'd had a Watcher who could have been supportive and helpful, not wanting to turn her in to wetworks fuckers.

"Always thought it was funny," she said. "They were out killin' shit at your age, but you couldn't go? Guess your mom would've shit herself if you got hurt, though."

For the rest, she shrugged. "You know. I travel, I try to keep my nose clean. Still kinda wanted in California, so I stick to the East Coast."

"You and Buffy don't anymore, not really," Dawn said, although she did take Faith's words to heart, knowing her history.

Dawn used to spend a lot of time wishing that Faith had gotten a good Watcher. Just like she used to spend more than a little bit of time wishing Faith had been her big sister instead of Buffy. Not that she'd ever really mentioned it to either of them.

"I think it's that they don't want it for me, because they ended up doing it when they didn't always want to, but they don't get that I chose this, and keep choosing this. Because of you, and Buffy. I need to make things better, so Slayers get the chance to be...happy."

"East Coast is good. Got to be drier than Scotland."

Faith had often wished the same thing. B already had a family. Maybe Faith would've cleaned up her act, if she had someone to look out for.

Wish in one hand, shit in the other, blah blah blah.

"I think some of 'em enjoyed it just fine," she said. "Getting to be the heroes. Hell, when I first found out. You got a destiny, and it's to kill bad guys. How fucking sweet is that?"

Plus, nobody could ever hurt you again. Not with their fists, anyway.

"You should come visit some time," she said. "Or I'll stop by. I mean, they let you have vacations, right?"

"Okay, maybe that's kind of awesome," Dawn admitted. She forgot that sometimes, since Buffy had hated it so much.

"Maybe? There was that time after Sunnydale, but then...I guess I'd have to check? I mean, you should definitely visit, but getting away from the chaos...it doesn't happen much, y'know?"
