Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants.

For the moment though, everything was set up nicely. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and gold tablecloths, each covered with glitter from years of use. There were balloons, streamers, and other slightly tasteful decorations, also covered in glitter from years of being stored with things that were also covered in glitter. Don't worry, no one had died from a glitter overdose yet.

Once the food was set out and the (non-tainted) punch was ready, it seemed like things were as good to go as they'd ever be. If things got too crowded, hopefully a fire marshal wasn't among the folks who had come back to town.

Nope, but he did have one screaming fangirl! Or, at least, one kind of yelling fangirl. "Drake!" Karla called, making her way towards him as fast as was reasonable with a one-yea-old in her arms. "Mother Night, Drake."

He was getting such a hug when she got to him.

"Wee blonde scourge!" Drake said happily. "Whoa, and a wee-er blonde scourge!"

"Hello, Drake," Karla said, pausing a moment to smile up at him before wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. "I've missed you. I don't suppose...?"

Could this be a lasting thing? Could it?

"...that I'm the father of your baby?" Drake finished, hugging Karla back before turning his attention to Kayla. "She's got my eyes, but I'm going to have to say no."

"And here I thought the love we shared over feminist literature was enough to quicken that spark," Karla said, "I suppose I'll just have to tell Warren that she's his for sure now."

She held Kayla up so Drake could get a better look at her. "Want to hold her? She's remarkably good about strangers."

At least, strangers her parents liked. Kayla seemed to have a sense for who they genuinely likes and who they merely tolerated.

Drake made a squeeing noise and gathered up Kayla in his arms. "She's beautiful," he said. Directly to Kayla, he said, "Hi, baby, I'm your uncle Drake.'

Kayla regarded him solemnly for a several long seconds, barely blinking. Just staring at him with grave blue eyes. And then out of nowhere, she giggled and patted at his nose with one (slightly-grubby) hand.

"You have gained Her Highness's approval," Karla said, amused. "Banner day for you."

"I am Your Highness's loyal servant," Drake said solemnly. He let go of Kayla so he could bow, but she didn't fall (not that Karla would have let her) -- a swirl of blue lights held her safely in midair until he straightened and took hold of her again.

Kayla giggled again, fascinated by the swirly blue lights. "Mama!" She liked this funny man! He should stay!

"It's funny," Karla said. "Kaeleer's had many baby Queens before, but I think she may be its very first princess. I blame her father and various auntie's influence entirely."

Because without them, Karla would have raised her daughter to be entirely unspoiled. Really.
