Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants.

For the moment though, everything was set up nicely. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and gold tablecloths, each covered with glitter from years of use. There were balloons, streamers, and other slightly tasteful decorations, also covered in glitter from years of being stored with things that were also covered in glitter. Don't worry, no one had died from a glitter overdose yet.

Once the food was set out and the (non-tainted) punch was ready, it seemed like things were as good to go as they'd ever be. If things got too crowded, hopefully a fire marshal wasn't among the folks who had come back to town.

"That's me, yes." Jake blinked at her. "Uh. How've you been? You look. Grown up."

Which was maybe a strange thing to say, but give him a break. It had been a long day.

"I'm getting that a lot." Alanna commented with a grin. "It's a thing that happens, apparently. I tried to refuse but there's now a small child calling me mama and people keep expecting my opinion on the status of the country. What have you been up to?"

"Running a coffeeshop, forgetting everything about my past. You know, the usual." Jake was maybe starting to get used to this. "I'm remembering now though, so it's all good. Teal deer, gremlins, zombies, ice monsters... It's all coming back to me now."

"Fandom forgetting or something else forgetting?" Alanna asked, only a little concerned. "You know, I realized I never actually saw a teal deer. Just heard about them on the radio a lot. Sometimes from my cat." She added wistfully.

"Entire multiverse exploding and being remade in the image of a not-terrible-stable person," Jake said with a sigh. That was possibly the nicest description of Doctor Doom ever. "I remember your cat! Black one, right? Not a student?"

He might have been remembering John, here. Or Zero.

Alanna blinked and made the executive decision not to ask. It was easier on her sanity that way. "Right! And he talked and did radio." She paused. "He talked before he came to Fandom, and yes, that's unusual where I'm from." A few more years, and this would be very funny to her. "The student was John. He was a lot of animals."

Probably a wise choice.

"Barbossa!" Jake said, folllowing the radio train of thought. "Oh man, the pirate radio. There was some serious alcohol involved in those broadcasts, I'm sure of it." Whether the cat also drank, he was less sure of. He decided not to mention it.

"John, right. Wasn't that an almost daily occourrence at one point?"

"I forgot about the pirate." Alanna said, also following down memory lane. "There probably was." She paused. "Hopefully not my cat however. I don't think my cat drank anything other than water and milk." She reached through her memory. "I think he was annoying someone? Possibly the island. It happened a lot. And really weird animals too."

"Seems about right," Jake nodded. The island had opinions of its own, he remembered that.

"I used to share a house with Barbossa. Until the ice monsters destroyed it. I think it's an appartment building now? Maybe?"

Alanna squinted. "Was that before or after Angelus? And the zombies and flood thing. And possibly some more vampires. There were a lot of invasions."

"After," Jake said definitely. He paused. "There really were a lot of invasions, weren't there? And vampires. Why so many vampires?"

Alanna shook her head. "At some point, I decided it was best for all if I just didn't ask. I wonder if they're still getting a lot of vampires?"

"Doom knows," Jake said absently. "I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing you can really slide into the conversation, you know? 'Hey, great being here again -- but about the vampires...'" He shook his head. "Lacks a certain something."

Alanna spent half a minute having a mental argument and finally decided to ask. "Doom knows?"

Jake paused. "Uh. It's like 'god knows'? You remember what I said about the multiverse exploding? Yeah, a guy named Doctor Doom did... something. I have no idea what. And now he's God of the world I'm from, pretty much. I don't really understand what happened myself."

Alanna blinked. "Your world is weird. Or got weird. Or something." Just wait a few years and yours will give it a very good go as well.

"Yep," Jake nodded. All of that was true. "How's your world doing?"

Alanna shrugged. "It was bad, it's getting better. Our monarchs are sane, and I'm allowed to slap them if they stop being so, and the famines are pretty much over, and the pirate raids have mostly decreased. If you asked me a few years ago, the answer would have been worse. What about you? Your world fell apart?"

"Yeah, but I didn't even realise until I got here. Which I guess is interesting? But also really unnerving." Jake shuddered. "But good on you with the lack of famines and pirate raids and stuff!"
