Prom, Community Center, Friday Evening

It was possible that the strange creatures that had invaded Fandom last week were still on everyone's mind when the Student Council had designed the decorations for Prom. Glittery cardboard animal-hybrid monsters awaited everyone as they arrived to the community center, and made their way inside along a blue and yellow carpet flanked by glowing, glittery red eyes.

Nothing in the decorations looked like a rabbit though. Some memories were just too much to make fun of.

"A little bit," Dante said, grinning. "But just a touch."

More than a touch.

"Dante, Kool-aid connoisseur," Kathy snorted. "My guess is that you put the package of kool-aid and the cup of sugar in, and then just added however much booze would fit in the flask."

"Nah, I had to make sure the glitter worked out, too," Dante said, smirking at her. "Maybe we should just see how the night works out and take it from there."

"Pretty sure edible glitter is made out of sugar," Kathy pointed out. "But yeah. Seeing how the night goes sounds like a good idea to me."

"I don't know, I didn't check," Dante said. He poked Kathy gently in the hip. "Maybe we'll just say fuck it and all go."

"That sounds like it'd be a lot of fun," Kathy agreed. Because everything else aside, including her own awkwardness, she liked the guys. Liked hanging out with them, spending time with them. She'd missed it.

Trying to hipcheck his poking finger, she added, "I mean, it's that or I try to convince you guys that it would be fun to go play on the playground in promwear."

Dante snickered softly. "As much as I'd like to see Anders go all the way around on the swingset..." he said.

He smirked at Kathy. "You can watch if I can watch," he joked.

"Hot," Kathy said, before clapping her hand over her mouth in case that hadn't been what Dante'd meant.

It had totally been what Dante meant, so he said nothing, just grinned at her broadly.

Almost... smirkily.

He didn't feel the urge to sleep with her, but he was finding he didn't mind the mental image of her being in the room. Or him being in the room.

Kathy shivered, because however Dante might be feeling or not, her blurted reaction was an honest one. He was hot and Anders was hot and the two of them would be incredibly hot, even if her only role was to sit on her hands and behave herself.

"Brat," she accused, since it would be a safe response whether he had been joking or he wasn't. Certainly much better than 'yes please.'

"Ehh, you like it," Dante said, raising his eyebrows. "Anyway, you've finally made it to your real senior prom. What do you wanna do next?"

It took about a beat and a half for Kathy to drag her brain out of the gutter and back to normal conversation where Dante was waiting.

"Errr," she said, trying to think of innocent answers, "Dance, I think. Have a good night with my friends and make this the thing to remember."

As opposed to tomorrow.

Her mind could've stayed in the gutter for that one if she'd wanted it to. Not that Dante was pointing that out.

"This, instead of...?"

Sort of not pointing that out.

It was entirely possible he had a serious problem not going on a deranged brinkmanship battle with himself.

Hey, she was trying very hard not to push or pressure! She'd admitted what she wanted, she figured the best bet was to leave it alone, and see what happened.

But the one thing she wanted even less than a possibility of pushing beyond where she should was reminding Dante that tomorrow was the year anniversary of when she'd died. That she'd rather focus on the joy of tonight than the remembrance of tomorrow.

So, taking a leaf from Dante's own book, she went with the most outrageous thing she could think of. "How easy it would be to have fingers slide up the front of my gown is what."

... well, that hadn't been what Dante'd expected.

... but it was a great way to very unexpectedly lodge that mental image in his brain, which would explain the vaguely uncharacteristic, "Uh," that passed his lips.

And he almost certainly wasn't thinking of what she'd been thinking of before it, so Kathy was going to call it a win. And also try to snag his flask and take another drink from it.

While standing with a hip cocked to the side, letting the very high split in her gown drape over one smooth thigh.

"Nope, nope," Dante said, snapping out of it to swat at her hand. "You ask, like a good girl."

... for the booze. Yes.

"With the right incentive, I can be a very good girl," Kathy said. Also talking about the booze. Yes. "So please, will you give it to me, Dante?"

In fairness she did point to the flask when she asked. Instead of any anything else.

She was a lot less confusing when she wasn't appealing to the inner danger junkie in him.

"Fine, 'cause you asked nicely," Dante said, stretching out his arm with the flask.

... though usually one held up the bottle at arm-height, not leg-height.

In fairness, Kathy had always had a significant 'try not to get caught' kink. She and Dante had never gotten to play with it much, but it'd always been there.

Ask Ezra.

"Too kind," Kathy said, her bare knee coming up to try to bump his hand up to where hers was still outstretched. "Thanks."

So maybe right now it didn't need to be about Kathy, but more about what Kathy brought out in him.

Dante's hand came up to press the bottle into her hand, but not without somehow managing to land on her leg in the slit at least twice - once on the way up and once on the way down.

Kathy could work with that.

Her skin was soft under his hand. Soft and warm and bare, because Kathy had absolutely no patience for nylons these days. She took a long drink from his flask, which also helped drown out the voice in her brain shrieking What are you doing, you're supposed to be being CAREFUL!, and held his gaze while she did. And then politely handed it back over, licking a drop of booze off her lower lip.

She didn't say anything, content to let Dante break the silence.

The brinkmanship part of Dante's brain really was pathetically easy to game.

He took the bottle, took a drink. When he lowered it, he didn't say anything either, but he smirked at her, raising his eyebrows.

Kathy held a hand out for the flask. Because she could keep doing this, Dante. She'd been all but silent for years. Maybe that's why she word-walling so much now, to make up for all the time she'd been the quietest girl in school.

"Hey, time to drink your own booze," Dante said easily, when it was clear she wasn't going to say anything.
