Prom 2023, Community Center, Friday Evening

This year's prom had an elegant black and white theme, and the Community Center was decked out with tasteful decorations that had all been covered in black and silver glitter. It was still fancy by at least some measures!

The food and punch were untainted (and unglittered) for the moment, and the dance floor was open for a fabulous time!

Just like she'd told everyone, Tahani was in green tonight (with a cape because one must splash out at one's last formal event in high school, mustn't one?).

She was making sure no one else was wearing green.

When Graham had told his mother about prom, of course she whipped up something nice for him to wear, a fancy new tunic that looked very striking with his cloak. Maybe not as fancy as something he might have once he was a Knight of the Realm (or, dare he still believe it, even king some day??), but he didn't need fancy when what he had, he knew was made with love.

The only thing was that it did sort of clash with his cap, and he was going back and forth between wearing it and not wearing it throughout the evening. It probably looked nicer, without it, but he had to admit, it just felt sort of odd not having something on his head!

And, of course, he didn't even think that Triumph wouldn't be invited, so he was there, too, dressed up in a very lovely sash and dressage that Graham's mother had also made so that they'd match. He was definitely going to be far more interested in the food and the punch than the dancing, though!

Libby had gotten some help from Zo and her grandma Jean (one fashion-wise, one financially!) to get a dress for this dance, and while she always felt a little awkward putting on such nice things, it was kind of fun and she did really enjoy the one she ended up with, and she expected tonight was going to be a lot of fun, really.

Jo had decided to go with something a little bit different for her desss instead of her usual white lace dress, she’d gone for pink, she was feeling a little self conscious but she was looking forward to the evening.

One thing Sakaki was going to miss about this school were the dances, where she actually felt comfortable wearing something cute and adorable, because everyone dressed up and she wasn't oafishly bigger than everyone else around her. She still felt incredibly awkward and shy about it, meaning she was clinging pretty closely to the walls, but she also enjoyed just looking at how nice everyone else looked, too, and she was really going to miss this. She was definitely not going to be able to get away with cute things so much in veterinary school...

Guillermo didn’t own a suit but he had made do with a very nice plaid shirt and black pants, he was a little nervous about the dance but he was still looking forward to the evening.

Did Beta especially want to be here? Not really. Was she dressed up for the occasion? Well, she was wearing a Quen outfit that Alva had given her last Parents' Weekend, did that count?

Look, she still looked uncomfortable as all hell, but according to most of the holos she'd watched this was some kind of significant social event, so in the name of science, or something... yeah, she was about to scurry right for the shadowy corners to lurk like a Victorian ghost child.

Charlie was here with a plaid skirt, combat boots, and a tank top that said, "Admit it. Life would be boring without me." Her hair was freshly re-purpled and her mandolin was slung over her back. Charlie was ready for prom!

TJ had made the possible strategic error of getting her mom to take her dress shopping, which meant there was really only one possible color for her to end up in. But Mom was right, it really did contrast nicely with her skin. And the dress - could it really be called a dress if it was two pieces? - was pretty cute.

There were a variety of warm and chilled finger foods and totally normal punch with the sherbet still floating in it. Mmmm tasty!

Dance Floor [Prom 23]

The DJ had a wide variety of music playing, and there were plenty of slow songs for dancing close with that special someone with whom you might have children with tomorrow.

It was pretty convenient, wasn't it, that a song had only just started to play when Stark led Summer out to the dance floor, and she took just a few seconds to really listen to the song as it started to play, and then let out a soft laugh.

"Yeah," she said, turning toward Stark now that they were there on the dance floor and stepping in close, a hand light against his chest for a moment before moving up to his shoulder. "This should be a good one."

Normally Cutter wouldn’t bother with chaperoning school dances but as Connor had pointed out they did both have very nice, very new expensive suits to wear and it would be a shame not to wear them.

So Cutter was there with Connor and actually supervising his first dance as a teacher, which felt a little weird after teaching at university but still it was nice being there and getting to spend the evening with Connor.

Please, like Summer would waste her perfectly good booze on these kids, who wouldn't even properly appreciate it.

But she was there, obviously, not only to be someone who was probably definitely getting way too old to be this into prom, but to show off an incredible dress and luxuriate in the rare occasion of having her hair down in some old Hollywood waves that were serious channeling some Rita Hayworth and the very well-dressed (if she did say so herself; he had a great stylist) date she'd brought with her.

And, you know, to, technically speaking, chaperone as well, probably. That, too.

It was going to be Goose’s last official dance so he figured the least he could do was chaperone one for the last time.

He was also wearing his uniform as well, to continue with the theme of wearing his uniform to school dances, even his last one.

Yeah, with his mood during the past week, Gladio was definitely not coming to this thing in his uniform, but he was here in a nice suit (sans sword...question mark?), and he was absolutely having the DJ play the songs from his class earlier today to see if any of his students actually would do the dances.

Not like he had anything better to do on a Friday night, right?

Anakin wasn't sharing his booze with anyone, thank you. He'd been to entirely too many proms at this point. Very few things would surprise him, but he did have a bucket of water under the punch bowl table just in case.

Any event in a location with a higher ceiling was definitely an event Sidon wanted to help with! So he was certainly here to chaperone...and possibly help put any decorations that might have fallen off the ceiling back up above everyone's heads.

Towards the end of the evening, Zoe came up to the microphone with an armful of tiaras and crowns, because winners should get to choose their own finery, right?

"Good evening. I hope everyone's been enjoying themselves." The soberly was going unsaid. "It's my pleasure to announce our prom royalty. For the juniors, we've got Libby Hazlett and Five Hargreeves, and for the seniors, we have Belle and Tahani al-Jamil. Congratulations to you all, come get your shinies."
