THREE MINUTE DATES

A couple minutes before 8:00, Kitty interrupted the zombie-played version of "Pony" to take the stage. You're welcome.

"Hello and welcome to Three Minute Dates! Thank you all for coming, whether you're here by accident, here on very purpose, or dragged here by Tino. I know there are other things you could all be doing." Ahem. "Here are the rules: every three minutes you will get paired up on a date with someone. When the gong sounds, it's on to the next date. It's fifteen minutes of your life, and then afterwards if you want to hang out, make friends, have one of Tino's horrifyingly on theme drinks, feel free. I just ask that you please don't have sex in the bathrooms."

She could not stop you from having sex in the bathrooms.

"Have fun! But not too much. Till later. At home."

"I am guilty of the same habit," Yelena said with a nod. "Though there's something to be said of just coming home from the end of a day dealing with Starbucks gremlins and hanging with your dog."

Belle was feeling less frustrated than she had been yesterday, at least? But yes. The island was full of distressingly beautiful people (and so many mysterious older men, sigh).

"Oh, you have a dog? I do love dogs though I don't have one of my own. Perhaps I could meet the dog?"

"I'm sure Fanny Longbottom would be happy to meet you," Yelena chuckled. "She's very much a fan of new people."

"Fanny Longbottom?" Belle asked, smiling, because that was a ridiculous and wonderful name for a dog.

"And are you a fan of new people as well, Yelena? I'm always happy to make new...acquaintances."

"Fanny Longbottom. It's a family name," Yelena explained. "And no, I don't like new people and shy away from them as things always get complicated. I'm trying to grow beyond that. And you?"

Russians were weird, okay?

"I enjoy meeting new people. I was eager to do so tonight." In case familiar people were unavailable plus there were just so many beautiful people around. "I enjoy these evenings as an excuse to socialize when I sometimes otherwise neglect to do so. I get lost in my books, sometimes."

Russians were very weird.

"Ah. A book lover. Very noble," Yelena said with a nod. "And to explain my sister went by the name of Fanny Longbottom for a while, so I named my dog after her."

Belle was going to puzzle over that for a moment then just nod and go along with it.

"That would explain it. Perhaps I'll meet her someday. And yes, I do love books. I've found them to be an excellent way to escape when needed. Or an excellent inspiration in other cases."
