That wasn't exactly true.

That not only wasn't true, it was obviously untrue.

Anakin gave her a small smile and pulled her just a little bit closer.

They were still firmly in the "teacher-student totally appropriate" zone, though.

Much to Anakin's secret chagrin.

"Are you having fun?" she asked after a moment.

"Sure," Anakin said. "Are you? Has Luke been a good date?"

"He gave me a pretty corsage and we went a-gondola-ing," she said. "He's been great."

"I'm glad," Anakin said, moving his hand to the small of Rory's back.

A little possessive for a guy who didn't have a claim.

"What about you?" she asked, swallowing a little. "Rose being nice to you?"

This was Rory, trying to make a joke.

And not really being good at it.

Anakin reached out and wrapped a lock of Rory's hair around his finger.

"I like you better as a brunette," he said softly.

The moment stretched longer than it should have, and Anakin stopped moving as he stared into Rory's eyes.

Anakin came within inches of leaning his forehead against hers.

He pulled back just in time.

Teacher. Idiot, his brain informed him.

"Sorry," he said, beginning to move again.

"Are you all right?" Rory asked hesitantly.

Anakin sighed. Not even close, he thought to himself.

"Fine," he said, pulling her just a tiny bit closer. "I'd forgotten how strange the lyrics are."

He was being maudlin over Rob Thomas. Something was wrong with the world.

"They aren't strange. They're descriptive," Rory corrected, conscious of how close she was now.
