"It does, doesn't it?" He got her a small glass and handed it over. "Hell of a surprised, too. There you go. Shall we toast?"

"Sure. Tooooo..." Parker looked around, trying to find something toast-worthy. "Glitter and glory?"

"Glitter and glory and going out with style," he decided, tapping his glass against hers. "You having fun, Parker?"

"I was, but I think I'm all funned out," Parker admitted, taking a sip and wincing. "If I have to look at one more person I'm going to say good-bye to... anyway." She sighed. "Time to go home, I think."

"I know what you mean," he said, glancing around until he found Sam. And then he couldn't look away. "Want an escort? I think my adoring public can spare me for ten minutes."

Parker gave him a tired smile. "Maybe? We should find my date, let him know I'm out of here, first, though." She followed his gaze to Sam, and winced, Sam's words from earlier coming back to her. "Yeah, I think the party's over."

He realised what he was doing and shook himself. "Sorry. Said some thing to Sam tonight I needed to say." He smiled softly. "It just brought things home." He held out a hand "Come on, let's find your date."

Parker took his hand, and sighed. "Let's do that. Anders should know I'm gonna leave, even if he's not ready to get out of here." She leaned her head on his shoulder, and said softly, "Too many things becoming inescapable, hunh."

"Yeah." He gave in to the urge, even though he knew the last thing she needed was another burden, and leaned his head against hers. "She's not going to come, Parker. She's going to stay."

A wince that was like a muscle pulling around her heart, understanding that was too sharp and clear. "I'm sorry, Jack. So very sorry."

"Me too," he whispered. He stayed that way for another few seconds, leaning on Parker - who was the first person he'd ever trusted to look out for him, and who'd never let him down - then straightened. "But that's life, isn't it. Let's go," he said, nodding at the crowd. "He must be here somewhere."

Parker nodded, her arm still looped through Jack's, then spotted Anders over by one of the backdrops again. "There he is. Daisy? Wanna go hooooooooooome."

Anders looked up and started to smile, then hesitated and schooled his face back into a fairly neutral expression. "Hey, Harkness. Parker. Time to call it a night?"

"I'm going to hang out for awhile still. I want to find my wizard before I leave, but Parker," Jack smiled down at her, "Is way past ready, I think."

Parker nodded morosely, and said, "If you want to stay, I can get a rickshaw, Daisy, but I thought I should let you know I was leaving..."

Anders glanced at his watch. "No, it's okay. I'm about ready to go myself." He did have an appointment of sorts to get to, after all. "I'd be a pretty crappy date if I didn't walk you home, wouldn't I?"

Parker gave him a grateful smile, then turned to brush a kiss on Jack's cheek. "Find me tomorrow, okay?" she whispered. "Ice cream and booze, maybe." Then she turned back to Anders, and slipped her arm throug his. "Thanks, Jack."
