Town Hall, Tuesday, November 13, Evening

Wyatt had been prepared for the sight of several flu victims, but he didn't expect it to be this bad. He counted at least 15 beds, and who knew if the people tending to them would get sick as well. He conferred briefly with Dr. Troy to find out what procedures they had in place, grabbed a mask, and got to work.

[ooc: Christian modded without permission! I will be AFK for an hour and a half or so, so clinic volunteers, please keep an eye on patients and new arrivals if you don't mind. Karal hesitated, then crouched by the cot's side, not wanting to disturb a sleeping patient, but needing to see if he was all right.

Or as all right as was possible here.

Bart pulled the blanket around himself tighter, shivering from a sudden chill he felt.

Flu's would never again be fun. Not even for all the ice cream in the town.

Karal went and got another blanket, carefully covering him up with it while Altra put his head over the edge of the cot, looking worried. "I'm not sure if you can hear me," Karal said softly, crouching back down. "But Altra is like a fur rug. If you didn't object, he could help keep you warm."

Bart might have thought he was referring to a certain panduppy.

"Gulliver?" He mumbled, still half asleep.

Altra started to quietly purr and nudged him very gently with his nose.

One gold eye slowly opened and Bart vaguely noticed there was a large cat there. Half out of habit he clumsily went to rub it's head. "Not Gulliver."

Altra pushed very gently against Bart's hand, keeping up a steady purr. "No, but he'll stay with you if you like," Karal said softly. "His name is Altra."

Bart smiled faintly, rubbing the cat's ear. "Hi Altra, 'm Bart."

Altra put one paw up on the edge of the cot, bright blue eyes opened wide. :Hello, Bart. It's good to meet you.:

Bart blinked, gold eyes going big. "Talking cat." A beat. "Cooool!"

Altra's whiskers twitched in amusement and he purred louder as Karal hid a smile. :I've always thought so. Want some company? You must be getting bored by now.:

Bart rubbed Altra's ears again. "Nah," He muttered. "Everything's less slow now. Flu's suck."

Altra kept purring. :Being sick isn't any fun,: he agreed, glancing back at Karal. :They should schedule it when there's nothing interesting happening.:

Karal took the hint. "Can I get you anything? Water or juice, maybe?"

"Juice?" Bart asked, looking away from Altra, but not stopping the petting. For a talking cat, he had soft ears!

"Juice it is." Karal gave him a quick smile and hurried off.

:You have very talented fingers,: Altra said, leaning into them. :I may have to keep you.:

"Thank you," Bart said, waving vaguely at Karal's retreating form. He sighed and flopped on the bed, stroking Altra's head some more. "I have practice with Anemone's Gulliver. You should meet him. He's fun."

:You'll have to introduce me when you're out of here.: Altra nosed at the blankets. :Think there's room for me up there? Cats are not meant to sit on the floor.:

Bart's experience with cats came from the two talking ones on Last Legacy VII, so he took Altra's words as the truth.

He moved over on the cot, thinking he was darn lucky to be so small. "Sorry."

Altra flicked his ears at him and oozed up onto the cot in the way that only cats can and fit himself around Bart, and if he used a touch of magic to do it, no one had to know. :So you should be,: he teased, purring again. :Being sick is no excuse for poor hospitality.

Bart smiled weakly, putting an arm over Altra for somehting that might have been damn near a hug. Or a cuddle.

But he was 15. Ish. Okay, 2, but he totally looked 15 and that was far too childish of a thing to do.

So, if anyone asked, he was just petting Altra more. "Are you magic like Ronan and Katara too?"

Altra snuggled in against him, quite content to be definitely-not-cuddled. :Magic, but of a different sort. Mine comes from a god.:

"Cool," Bart sighed, headache not feeling so bad for a moment. "Is he a nice god?"

:He is. He cares for people, watches over them.: His purring got a bit quieter, but didn't stop. :He sent me to Karal.:

Closing his eyes again, Bart relaxed, but kept up the gentle petting. "Karal's lucky then. I wish I had a god kitty..."

:I can be yours until you feel better. Karal doesn't need quite as much help as he used to.: Altra put his head down, eyes half lidded. :Sleep, Bart. I'll stay right here.:
