Wyatt had been prepared for the sight of several flu victims, but he didn't expect it to be this bad. He counted at least 15 beds, and who knew if the people tending to them would get sick as well. He conferred briefly with Dr. Troy to find out what procedures they had in place, grabbed a mask, and got to work.

Karal spotted her and hurried over. Today felt as if it had been nothing but hurrying, not that it made anything better. "Inara, are you well?"

"Yes, I'm fine," she said, understanding Karal's concern immediately, "but I wanted to help where I could. Are you? Where can I help?"

He breathed a sigh of relief. "Worried. Tired. Not sick. I don't know," he said, looking around the hall. "I'm just...talking to people. Seeing if they need food or water, or more blankets. Praying. It's all I can do."

"How bad is it? Can you tell?" She asked, lowering her voice.

"I don't know. I think," he glanced around, stepped a bit closer as he lowered his voice, "I think it might be very bad. More people keep coming in, they're so sick, and it's just so fast."

"Oh, no," she said, already worried for everyone, "Is anything working?"

"Maybe?" He shrugged helplessly. "I honestly don't know. Sometimes they seem better, sometimes worse."

She rubbed her hands over her arms. "I don't have any medical knowledge, but I can't imagine being anywhere else. Does that make sense?"

"Perfect sense," he said, managing a smile. "That's why I'm here. We have to do what we can."

"All we need to do is figure out what that is," she said, glancing around.

"We can be here, we can give people water and soup, and change sheets and give them blankets," he reached out to touch her arm, "and let them know they're not alone."

She nodded solemnly. "We can do that."

Karal nodded back. "And we will."

"We should probably start," she decided.

He took a deep breath. "We should," he said. "We'll go together."

"Where are we going?"

He nodded at the cots in reply. "Just keep your eye on a student named Victor. He's very unhappy to be here and he really doesn't want any soup."

"Use my wiles to get Victor to have soup," she interpreted. "I understand."

It made him chuckle. "Inara, if you can get Victor to willingly take anything, it will be a miracle the near equal of setting Solaris on the Sun Throne."

"Now you've given me a challenge."
