fandomtownies | Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

"I imagine it can be disconcerting," Cole said. "Do you see a lot of people like me around here?"

She shook her head. "Not so far," she admitted. "You're the first one I've seen since I've been here." She gave him another smile. "I've only been here a couple of months."

And she tried to avoid going out much.

"Do your powers let you control the dead?" Cole asked. Not that he saw the shy girl as a threat, but it would be good to know.

Chloe wrinkled her nose. "I-I'm n-not sure that c-control is the right word. I've brought the d-dead back by a-accident and then had to f-fight to lay them to rest again."

Chloe was pretty sure that since Cole was a ghost that meant he wasn't a spy from Lyle House sent to find her and take her back to them.

Cole frowned. "Do you have anyone to help you learn to master your powers?" Unfortunately, all the necromancers Cole knew were evil, and if they ever got wind of this girl, they'd try to twist her to their own ends.

Chloe shook her head. "M-most of the adults who k-knew about my powers were trying to decide if I was going to be allowed to l-live or n-not," she said. "It's w-why I'm here. I'm hiding f-from t-them. M-my friends thought I'd be s-safe here since I c-can't go home."

She looked sad about that.

"Drake said this place was special," Cole said. "Maybe if you can learn to hone your powers here you can go home again."

"D-dad d-doesn't k-know." She gave him a smile. "D-Drake? M-my t-teacher? You know him?"

Someone may have had a silly smile on her face.

Cole almost rolled his eyes. Of course Drake would be charming wherever he was or whatever he was doing. "He's a friend of mine," Cole said. "I dropped by to see how he's doing."

"He's a r-really w-wonderful teacher," Chloe said with a smile. "N-not scary at all."

"Drake couldn't scare a nervous bunny," Cole said. He could charm the pants off one, though.

"S-sometimes the prettiest p-people can be the s-scariest," Chloe said.

"True enough," Cole agreed. He'd run into his share of evil but beautiful people over the years. "Drake's harmless, though."

"I l-like his class."

"If he asks you to do anything involving jello, tell him no," Cole said solemnly.

Chloe's eyes widened as she looked at him in confusion.

"Just trust me," Cole said. "You'll get...detention or something if you listen to him."

"I do trust you," funny that. "B-but D-Drake would n-never give us d-detention."

"Drake won't," Cole said with a smirk. "But the teachers whose offices he fills with jello might."
