Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Jean had needed to assign Priscilla and Olga to a Five Republics arms smuggling ring to make sure they didn't get sent to cover this instead of him.

He was keeping his eyes high, watching the other adults covertly, which is why he missed Rico lighting up, only turning as she squealed and darted towards a familiar figure. Crowd threat assessment: Zero. Jean is safe. Target acquired! "TRIELA!"

Triela didn't even try to stop her beaming grin. "Hey, Rico," she laughed, bracing herself in case Rico went for a hug.

'If' she went for a hug? 'Etta always fell over when Rico hugged her, and Claes wasn't very huggy, and Rico always felt bad 'cause Angie was too fragile to hug, even if she totally needed them.

Oh yes, that was Rico, flinging herself at Triela and laughing, and even Jean's mouth twitched slightly in amusement.

"Found you!" she sang, glomping on to the older girl for dear life. "Is this where you live? It's so pretty! We got to take a plane to get to the States, 'cause we had some work on the way, and I saw so much ocean! I can't believe you get ocean every day! It's so wonderful!"

"Yes, Rico, this is where I live. Or, at least, in a dorm here on the island." She smiled as she hugged Rico back, though obviously not as hard as Rico was hugging her. "And if you like the ocean so much, I'll have to take you to the beach."

She glanced over Rico's head at Jean and nodded once in greeting.

"Triela," Jean replied in response to her nod, ignoring how his cyborg continued to chatter happily. "How are you functioning?"

"I am fully operational," Triela told him, half-listening to Rico and smiling almost in spite of herself. "I have had no difficulty adjusting to the replacement parts. I am fully prepared to return to active duty."

Please give her a mission!

"That's good to hear," he replied sincerely. And it was; it meant that she wasn't going completely soft after being left to her own devices. With all her supplemental training and experience, Triela was too valuable to waste.

"You'll need final approval from Dr. Bianchi, of course, but I see no reason to keep you off the rooster if you have sufficiently recovered." Hilshire and any of his objections about 'mental recovery time' be damned.

Of course." Her submissive acknowledgment was spoiled slightly by her scowl. She didn't want to have to wait on anyone else's approval. She was ready.

She glanced down at Rico and grinned.
