fandomtownies | Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

"Still me," she grinned. That was probably not what he meant, but it still applied. "Hi."

It had been a long time since Luke had seen Jaina so young and happy, so he took a moment to savor it. "Hi," he replied. "You're almost Ben's age. This is going to take me a minute."

She actually hadn't been sure how she'd be received, what with the brother-killing and not being seen in a while, but this wasn't bad. "It's okay, I'm still older than Ben, so that part's good."

"How much older than Ben are you now?" Luke asked, trying to remember what Ben had said. "He mentioned something about time moving faster for you."

"Five years, almost six. I'll be twenty-one in about a month." And then she'd be older than John again. Wow that was weird.

Luke did a quick bit of math. Almost to the end of the Yuuzhan Vong conflict. Interesting. "Ben mentioned that you have visitors coming this weekend as well," he continued.

"One," she confirmed. "Did he mention who it was?"

Shadows filled Luke's eyes. "He did. Ben's...conflicted about it."

And only Ben. Really.

"I figured," she sighed. "I haven't found Jacen yet, but he knows enough to stay away if that's what everyone wants."

"We miss him," Luke replied softly.

She hadn't expected that at all, and wasn't exactly sure how to respond to it. She didn't know enough to be able to be reassuring without being completely inappropriate, and Jacen was actually around here somewhere. "So have you found Ben yet?" she wondered, going for the subject change.

Luke nodded. "Over by the food," he said with a tiny smile. "Some things don't change."

"Which means you knew exactly where to find him?" she guessed.

"He does make it easy sometimes," Luke admitted. "How's he doing?"

"He seems to be okay," said Jaina. "He doesn't really tell me much, though."

Luke looked worried. "I don't really like the sound of that," he admitted.

"He's got friends, he's got things to do. He handles things in his own Ben way," she said. "I don't worry about him much, I just try to be around if he needs me." Which was sort of the way her mom used to be with her, which was a little scary to realize.

"Maybe I should talk with Ben's friends, then," Luke said. "It's been a tough year for him."

But not for Luke, of course.

"It has," Jaina agreed. She couldn't argue that one. "They've probably heard a lot about you."

"Hopefully good things," Luke said with a smile. "And how are you? You seem a little apprehensive."

"These weekends are never not stressful," she replied. "And there are six timelines represented here on a normal day now."

"Six?" Luke repeated. "Yours, Ben's, Anakin's, and...Tahiri. That's four. Who am I missing?"

"Kyle Katarn and Mirax Horn," Jaina said. "They're both from pretty far back."

Luke burst out laughing. "Really?"

"Mirax is a grade lower than Ben, and I'm three where Kyle's from," she explained. "And he can still kick my ass."
