fandomtownies | Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Psh, she wasn't turning down a hug, even if this wasn't who she'd expected. "So're you! I wasn't expecting to see you this weekend!"

Oh god, Lafayette Reynolds in Fandom.

This was going to be interesting.

"Yeah, well, Tara wanted to come but she had some things to take care of at home." Meaning her mother. "So you got me instead. Hell of an upgrade, right?"

"I hope your aunt's doing okay," Sookie said, because she knew Mrs. Thornton, yep. "I can't believe you're here! How're Tara and my brother doing?"

"Tara's a mean, nasty bitch. So she's doing fine," Lafayette laughed. "And Jason's...Jason."

Dumb as a rock and sexy as hell.

"But he hasn't gotten himself in too much trouble, if that's what you mean."

"That's what I mean," she said, rolling her eyes. "So, um. You should know -- um, this school is kind of special? Just so you don't get too many surprises."

That was a way to start it.

Lafayette raised an eyebrow. "I've seen a lot of crazy shit in my day, Sookie. What kind of special are we talking about?"

"Well...." Okay, how to explain this. Best to start out gentle. "Okay, you know, um, what I can do?" She pointed to her temple. "That's pretty common here. Like, I know about six others who can."

Lafayette stared for a moment. That did pose as a bit of a problem considering the type of business he was in. "Okay, that is some crazy shit right there."

"And it's just the start," she said, smiling a little. "There's a version of Jason here? Like, from another...reality. He has a Sookie at home, but he's my age."

Coming from a place where vampires were walking around freely and telepaths weren't out of the realm of possibility, you'd think Lafayette would be more apt to believe alternate realities were possible.

"Hooker, Tara is gonna kill you once she finds out you've been doing drugs."

You would think he'd be more apt to believe it, but you'd be wrong.

"I am not doing drugs!" she protested, shaking her head. And she knew how to play this one, and lowered her voice. "Lafayette, if I wanted a hook-up, don't you think I'd've gone to you? C'mon. I'm serious, weird things happen here."

Well. He couldn't argue against that logic. He would have given her a nice discount, after all.

"All right, all right. We're deep in Twilight Zone shit here," he said, holding up his hands. "I suppose there's worse things in the world than two Jason Stackhouses."

"...yep, so that's one of the weird things. Just kinda take everything with a grain of salt," she decided, because there was so much stuff to explain that it was best to just leave it alone. "But I have friends you can meet, here!"

It was sad that 'I have friends!' was like, an announcement for Sookie.

"I knew once you got out of that backwards hick town you'd meet people. They just didn't understand you in Bon Temps," Lafayette said proudly. "There any boys I should know about?"

"No. Yes. Maybe." Those are all the available answers, Sookie. "I mean, kind of. He doesn't know I...whatever, just be nice to all the boys and I won't tell you which one it is!" she decided. Because Lafayette wouldn't be able to tell when she got all nervous and flirty around Bobby, or something?

"Please, I'm always nice to the boys," Lafayette said. He...he might be a little too nice to the boys.

Sookie gave him a look. "Okay, well, there's one that I've got dibs on, and his name's Bobby. Happy?"

Lafayette grinned. "I'm ecstatic, baby. Can't wait to meet him."

Yeah, that's going to end well.
