fandomtownies | Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

"Do you know all of them?" she asked curiously. "Or are you anticipating some surprises?"

"I know Jacen and Luke, so I'm prepared for the big stuff," she said. Yeah, not really, because she hadn't met her AU boyfriend yet. "I'm sure Mirax has someone here, but I doubt whoever it is will break my brain." Wrong again. "I think that's about it. I can't think of who Kyle and Tahiri would have here."

She'd thought about this a lot this week.

Rory nodded. "Those are the two I knew about, yeah," she agreed, bouncing Juliet a little. "I mean, I won't recognize your brother but I know he's coming. It's going to be bizarre seeing Luke all...old and stuff. Probably more on the normal side for you, though."

"He's not going to be old. Only like sixty," Jaina said. Of course, people also lived a lot longer in her galaxy. ~~And longer still, since Lucas will probably never allow Luke killed off, la!~~ "I think I'm just seeing him at every age now."

"Sixty's pretty old, compared to twenty," she pointed out. "That's how old our Luke is."

"...Kriffing hell, I'm going to be older than Uncle Luke."

That was the part she stuck on, yes.

Rory tilted her head. "When are you turning twenty-one?"

"November sometime, usually," she said. "But time's been a little funny back home, so it might be sooner."

"Mmm. I'm doing it in three weeks," Rory noted. "You're going to pass me, too. That's so weird to think about."

"So I'm going to be older than my uncle, and my alternate universe stepgrandmother." Why was there not alcohol at this thing? "At least John's still going to be older."

"And you're turning twenty-one!" she noted. "You can drink in bars not on this island!"

"I can do that anyway. I have a fake ID and my boyfriend's in college," Jaina pointed out. Plus she rarely drank anyway.

"Well, yeah, but legally!" Rory tried. "Come on, this is like a ritual on this planet. But less creepy than Christmas," she added quickly, because she knew Jaina was with Anakin on the 'WTF Santa' train.

"Christmas isn't creepy," Jaina corrected. "I've had two this summer. I just don't listen to Grandfather anymore because he won't admit he doesn't get it."

"You're not creeped out by Santa?" Rory asked, removing a bit of her hair from Juliet's fist. "It's like a yearly battle for me to get Anakin to even look at decorations with me."

"I was introduced to him as a child-stalker. I don't think I'm going to get over that, but I'm pretty clear on the fact that he's not real." And then she added, "Sorry, Juliet."

"She's too little to get that, don't worry," she replied, smiling and bouncing Juliet. "...do you want to hold her, or is that too weird for you?"

Oh, it was totally too weird, but Jaina was not about to be intimidated by a three-month-old. "I can," she said, casually.

"Okay." Rory held out the baby. "Just make sure to support her head. She's not that great at doing that yet."

Juliet, for her part, contentedly flailed a bit.

"I know how to hold babies," Jaina assured her, carefully taking Juliet into her arms. And she did actually look pretty comfortable with it.

Even if this was one of the weirdest things ever.

"I didn't, until I had one," Rory admitted. "They say you're supposed to hold them like footballs, except I don't have the faintest idea as to what to do with one of those."

"I've seen those on television. Babies move and people tend not to tackle you when you're holding one," Jaina replied. "I've known Ben since he was a couple days old."

"How old is he at home for you, now?" she asked.

She had to think about it. "Three? I haven't seen him since he was a baby, though."

"Awww. I've only met the one here," Rory admitted. "I bet he was a sweet baby, though."
