fandomtownies | Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Town Park [Friday Afternoon]

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

"You're not in Mensa," Jaina assured him. "You really don't want to be in that thing, do you?" It was not the first time this had come up.

"God no," he said, shuddering a little. "Let's say I know how that future goes and it really isn't pretty." Unlike her, poor Jaina. "So, we're dating?" Sheppard should not be smiling like that.

"Two and a half years," she said, almost smiling without knowing why. Maybe because he was. "Some of that even long distance." Among other things.

"You're lying," he decided, giving her a patented look of shock. "Unless the long distance part means you never have to actually see your me - version of me, whatever."

"I go to see him almost every weekend," she said. "I'm just that good."

"Or there's something seriously wrong with you," John grinned, apparently taking Rodney's role in the conversation. "Do you often suffer from blows to the head?"

"That's beside the point," she said, one corner of her mouth turning up. "Maybe you're just likable."

Jaina, stop flirting with your alternate universe boyfriend.

"Well, that's just a fact," he pointed out. And hey, he'd been married for a while there, the likability just hadn't lasted. "But what, I'm not visiting you this weekend?"

"You're at school. And that's kind of complicated, timingwise," she explained. "You'll be back for homecoming, as far as I know."

"Ah, Stanford. Those were good days. Do I still have that great apartment on the water with..." Mitch. Who died with Dex outside Khabour. "Oh, I can't even remember." This Sheppard didn't know it was useless to lie to a Jedi.

"Mitch," she supplied, not knowing that that might be bad to say, or why, though she was watching him closely. "There's a train you like to complain about."

"Right, I guess some things never change," he said a little sadly. "Though, if I know him and I'm dating you...well, that could be really interesting." Nancy would shit a brick.

"How so?" she wondered, curious about his perspective.

"Easy, if I'm with you it means I'm not with anyone else. Or so I assume." Oh John, don't be gross.

"You're not with anyone else," she promised. "Or we really wouldn't have lasted two years."

"Hey, my anyone else would not have taken well to you hanging around all the time, believe you me."

"You have an anyone else in mind?" She'd been thinking in generic terms, but this was interesting.

"You ever met Nancy?" Sheppard asked, only smirking a little.

Jaina stared.

"Your everyone else is Nancy?"

"Ex-wife, luckily enough," he said with a wink.

And now her jaw dropped.

"You married that little bitch? Were you drunk?"

"Might've lasted longer if I had been," John admitted, laughing. "Nah, dad thought marrying her was the best thing I could ever do."

"It wasn't!" Jaina said adamantly. Ew. It was bad enough knowing that her John had slept with her once- and she was always going to claim it was once because considering that it had been more than that would have her in the clinic for tests just because that upped the odds for Nancy's probable diseases to be passed on- but wow.

"Married to Nancy. How are you not still rocking back and forth in a corner?"

"There was a lot of war mixed in there," he shrugged. "She's surprisingly easy to repress if you try." Don't ask Ronon how John's face goes all horrified and squinty the moment he sees Nancy now, though.

"I've tried," Jaina assured him. "But you dumped her?"
