April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

She most certainly did. Priestly turned towards the owner of the voice and grinned. "Kate!"

And so Kate threw her arms around his neck, and he was getting hugged. "Hey, dude, it's been forever."

Priestly was always up for hugs. He might be trying to pick Kate up off the floor, even.

"And a day," he agreed. "And yet, Fandom remains totally the same."

Kate was thin and tiny, except for her height. She was all for being picked up, really. And clinging.

"It kinda does that, yeah," she said. "Benefit of it being permanently weird, I guess."

"I wouldn't change that for the world." Priestly blinked. "Well, maybe cut down a bit on the life threatening horrors. It'd still be way more exciting than home."

"What are you even doing now, anyway?" Yes, Kate was totally going to skip saying her home was a little too exciting, a lot of the time. "I'm so out of the loop."

"I'm not sure I have a loop to be in, don't worry," Priestly said. "Not doing a whole lot, either. Finishing up my first year at culinary school, making sandwiches on the beach. You?"

"Ugh, don't even ask," Kate groaned. "I've been all over the place for months and months. It's only gotten better really recently."

Like, within the last week.

"Yeah? Anything I can do a quick weekend's worth in person and/or phone call help with?"

"Nah, stuff's already looking up, I promise," she assured him, wrinkling her nose. "I've just kinda managed to get dumped twice over the last three months, plus I've been the dumper once, and oh, yeah, there was some major drama because of which I can now defend myself with a knife."

"Damn woman. You've been busy."

"I know." Oh, did she ever. "Also, before all that, I worked as a debt collector, and then I embodied a comic book heroine online. Neither was a particularly pleasant experience in the long run."

"Wait, which comic book character? And do you have pictures?"

"Princess Valhalla Hawkwind. There's a music video online."

It was entirely possible she wouldn't be watching that again herself anytime soon.

Priestly, on the other hand, was going to be watching it the minute he got back to his hotel room. And possibly sending a link to Jen. Which meant it would end up playing at Beach City Grill by the end of the weekend.

"Wow. You're, like, internet famous."

"Yeah, I know, it got like a billion hits." She could've maybe sounded just a touch more enthusiastic, but oh well. The time for that had passed. "But with the amount of cleavage I'm showing there, I should be."

Yeah, he was definitely checking that one out asap.

"Your life is so much more interesting than mine."

"Just remember, interesting doesn't mean better," Kate felt the need to point out. "I would kill for a few boring months."

"You should come hang out in Santa Cruz sometime, then. The biggest excitement tends to be watching my boss moon over the woman who runs the crystal shop across the street."

"I don't know, the fact that there's a crystal shop across the street sounds kind of interesting," Kate mused, out of some idle, natural need to argue. "But, y'know, normal worl interesting. Not 'and then my kid from an alternative universe showed up' interesting."

"True. You know, I totally first met one of my coworkers when I was pretending to be my boss's niece because I'd turned into a girl."

"Really? How did that go?"

Hilariously, was her guess.

"I think she liked me better when she thought I was a lesbian."

Kate couldn't help snickering. "Ow. That sounds kinda unfortunate."

"Yeeeeah, I don't think I'm her type, really. She's into, like, really preppy, confident guys."
