April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

"Wasn't that what Merlin startled, two years ago before you guys first came here?" Or was it something more British? "Okay, that would be cruel to the hedgehog. But no other monster-related things? Francine and Karla told me about giant creepy witchfinding dude already."

"Badger," Arthur said, idly. "And barring the Witchfinder, no, we haven't had any trouble. Barring the raiding parties at the borders, but Father hasn't seen fit to send me there yet."

"Good." On the less trouble. And maybe a little on the raiding party, because he was also Other People, even though he was one of the most capable Other People Dinah knew. "Are they just stealing cattle, or is it scarier than that?"

"Mostly they're threatening the townsfolk, trying to take their stock of food for the winter. We've secured some of the food to be redistributed to them later, but we obviously can't take everything, lest the villagers go without."

"What jerks," Dinah said with heat. Stealing from the poor was about as low as it got. "Did their own crops fail, or are they just lazy creeps? And... yeah. That doesn't sound easy." Because either way, the townspeople could starve. That was the worst part.

"They're raiders," Arthur said, with a shrug. "Generally travelling bands of scum who don't know how to make an honest day's work."

Just asking for a smackdown, then. "I hope your dad changes his mind soon. Or they give up. Or. I dunno what." Merlin? Maybe, but it would be way impolitic to hope that out loud. And maybe not possible anyway.

"The King has already sent out soldiers to deal with the problem," Arthur explained, quickly. "They simply haven't succeeded yet."

"Oh. Okay." That was all right. Of course Arthur felt like he should be doing it, though. Dinah sighed and took a sip of her drink. "Makes the gamblers and art thieves we're getting lately look small-time. Which I guess I should be glad for." And she was! Mostly. "No more saboteurs like two months ago, thankfully."

"...Okay, so yeah, you didn't get that memo." Scully bit her lip. "Uh, a meta with a shapechanging ability was sabotaging one of our public events? I had to join behind the scenes to track her down." Brightly, she added: "Helena got to the bomb before it went off!"
