Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"...wait, what?" Jon eyed the booth with his name on it, tried to find someone to protest to, and finally gave up, gathered as many towels as he could, and climbed up in it.

This was not how he had planned to spend his day.

"Well look who it is!" Dwight said with a chuckle. "Didn't expect to see you out here, Jon. Not that it's a bad thing" Dwight added with an encouraging smile. "How have you been?"

"Well, I, um. I got a haircut." Hey, that was a pretty exciting thing when your life was 'sit around the house and read horror stories'. "I was not planning on being here. I'm not sure why I am. Maybe...maybe it's a new teacher thing.

"And, um...I hope you're doing well."

"Hey looks good" Dwight said flashing the thumbs up and then chuckled. "Seems to be a trend for some of us. I had quite the major trim a few months after I came here too.... Much to Lucifer's delight. I'm sure if Eliot had been here then he would have died. I would have made yours look almost normal.

Dwight shook his head, remembering the 'homeless surfer dude' jokes.

"But I'm doing well. Just finished up a stint in my own booth" he said with a chin jerk down the way.

"Oh?" Jon asked, before he knew what that was. "Oh! Well, I suppose getting dunked is preferable, then."

Because Jon was weird like that.

"I'm taking it you did not sign up for this one willingly either?" Dwight said with a sympathetic grin.

"No, I...no. I didn't even know I was until I got here," Jon admitted.

"You are going to end up looking like a drowned rat," Eliot said, fondly teasing. "Even more so than usual."

"I don't usually look drowned," Jon protested. He grimaced and fiddled with the edges of his hair. "Before it gets wet, did this, um. It looks okay, I hope?"

All the short parts especially looked greyer than they had any right to, but he'd expected that.

Eliot tilted his head, giving the cut a critical look.

"It gives you a bit of a silver-fox kind of air," he said, nodding. "I approve."

Jon nodded, a little pleased, but still looked disgruntled. "I'm thirty-one."

"And inhabited by a fear entity. You're probably lucky your hair isn't shock-white."

(In another version of Eliot's world, Quentin's had turned that color after confronting the Beast.)

Jon sighed. "It started that before everything else. I'm pretty sure it's just bad genes and stress."

Jo had survived attempting to dunk Dean Skywalker and now she was wandering along the dunk tanks and saw her literature teacher, “hello Mr. Sims,” she said a bit awkwardly because she was still not used to the idea of dunking her teachers in water.

"Hello, Jo," Jon answered back. He was looking a bit wet and more resigned than disgruntled. "I trust you're doing well today."

“I’m quite well thank you,” she replied as she noted his appearance, “this is all rather new to me, the teachers at my old school would never have done this,” because now she was trying to imagine the Mam’Zelles doing this since like Jo they both hated the water.

"I'm not surprised," Jon said. "I think teachers have become somewhat more casual over the years. Not that I meant to do this, either, but if you'd like, go right ahead and dunk me."

She smiled, "I did have to check with Dean Skywalker that it wasn't going to go on my report card," she offered, also because she didn't want to be expelled from school twice in six months.

She got one of the balls and she threw it to see what would happen.

"No grades will be negatively impacted by this," Jon assured her.

The ball didn't quite make it there, but it was a good try. "I can't believe I'm giving you advice on this, but try a little harder," Jon advised.

Liz was wandering by the different booths and taking photos and smiled when she spotted Jon, she raised her camera up to take his picture, hopefully he wouldn’t mind, “so did you volunteer for this or was this news to you that you’d be here,”

He didn't mind, though he wasn't going to pose or anything, just wave a little.

"I had no idea this even existed until I showed up," he said. "I never would have signed up voluntarily. Although I suppose it could be worse." He could be getting sticky or kissed.

Liz smiled as she took his picture, "I haven't been to one of these in about ten years I think," she told him, she glanced back over the row of dunk tanks, "Master Skywalker was in the dunk tanks back then too," she said.

"Huh. He didn't strike me as the type of man to choose to do this, especially not for so long," Jon noted.

Skywalker was intimidating, albeit he seemed a little less outright murderous than Elias.

"He said the moose signed him up but I think he might also enjoy it," Liz remarked with a smile, "I was his student over fourteen years ago, he doesn't seem as terrifying now," hopefully Anakin hadn't just heard her say that.
