It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

Huh. Another unfamiliar face. What were the odds?

"Hey," Will greeted the guy (why did he always seem to get paired with guys for this thing?). "How's your evening so far?" said with the cheer of someone who'd signed up for this on purpose.

Oh good. Someone entirely new to him and Marc. That was one hurdle out of the way. Now for the second. "A bit awkward, I'm afraid. I'm here on a date already, you see. With someone I love. Got signed up by accident, but felt horrible about leaving someone sat alone and not knowing why. I'm Steven, by the way. With a V."

Which Will probably already knew as far as general names went but the spelling part never hurt to make sure of.

"Will Halstead, with an A," Will introduced himself without skipping a beat. He'd clearly had to specify the 'with an A' bit a few times in his life, so he got where you were coming from, Steven. In more ways than one actually... "That's exactly what happened to me last time. Well, except for the part about being on a date already," he had to add. "It helps if you just think of it as a good way to meet new people. Or have a quick chat with someone you already know."

Steven relaxed. It was good to know there were no hard feelings. "Don't mind making new friends at all. Funny how you can be on the island for months and there's some people you never bump into, isn't it? Where do you work? I'm at the museum, myself."

"The clinic," Will told him. "Or perhaps it's better known these days as where Stabby the Crab lives."

Steven's face brightened. "You work with Stark! He's a good friend. I've been by to say hello to him, time to time."

Steven had seen the crab in his last visit but he wasn't going to presume friendship. He and Stabby had never interacted, after all.

"Stark's a great guy," Will said with a nod. "And a good friend, I agree." Which made them like... friends-in-law? Something?

That was totally fair re: Stabby. Will was pretty sure the nurses were friends with him, but beyond that... ?

"Well any friend of Stark's is a friend of mine," Steven said. Then he wondered if that came off as too much. "I mean to say he's a good judge of character. So if he's friends with you all the more reason to be glad tonight gave us the chance to meet."

Yeah, it was super weird how they hadn't crossed paths before now, honestly!

"I'll take it," Will grinned. "And good luck meeting more people to have completely platonic conversations with." Completely oblivious to how he was being glared at across the room by a certain grumpy detective, yes.

So odd! Especially since Will seemed quite nice!

"You as well," Steven told him. "Or more, if that's what you fancy."

Not with Steven though. He belonged to a certain grumpy detective.
