It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

Kurt and Sakaki had been in a few classes together so he wasnt feeling overly nervous about this one as he sat and waited for Sakaki to join him.

And by round three, with two people she felt fairly comfortable around herself, Sakaki was feeling pretty warmed up and social at least. Which for her, wasn't much, but it was something, and she maybe even smile a faint touch as she sat down and nodded to Kurt in greeting.

"Hello, Kurt," she said, falling easily into what had worked very well for her so far. "How have you been?"

"Been well, thanks. How are things at the animal shelter?"

Kurt had been meaning to go by again after he and Guillermo had ~~handwavedly~~ stopped by while he had been a sugar glider. And he considered Sakaki a friend and he knew he needed to be better about socializing outside of classes.

"Oh," said Sakaki, with another nod. "Things have been going well. The cats have been a little nicer ever since I got Maya, so we're going through a lot less first aid supplies now."

She'd only realize, after she said it, that this was perhaps not exactly the most normal statement to make in a conversation, but she did remember that it was important to also ask other people questions back.

"How are your classes going?"

"Oh a new pet? That is cool!" Kurt said with a smile. "And things are going well with classes. I have some interesting ones this time around, but I am really liking our paleontology class a lot so far!"

The smile that blossomed on Sakaki's face was a small one, but it was very clear and full of fondness at the acknowledgement of how cool her new pet was; Kurt didn't even know the half of it! And she might have said something more about it, if the conversation hadn't then flowed in a slightly different direction.

"Oh," she remembered with a blink, "that's right. You're in my paleontology class with me...Do you....do you know what you're going to do your report about?"

"I am having a hard time choosing to be honest," Kurt said with a small laugh and a shake of his head. There are so many good ones to choose from. What about you? Any idea on what you are doing yours on? It must be really interesting learning about these creatures for you with working at the shelter and all!"

"It really is," Sakaki agreed, with a small nod, and a small smile as well. "I want to be a veterinarian some day, so getting to work with so many animals is really going to be beneficial to me in the future. As far as which I'd like to do my report on? I'm also not sure, I need to spend a little more time looking into it, but I've been wondering if there are any cats from that era. If there are, that's probably what I'll do."

Or maybe if she could find something else that was particularly cute.

"We may have to try and meet up before class and compare notes and see what we can come up with!" Kurt offered with a smile. "Might be able to find something that suits both of our interests!"

Sakaki's smile at that was a little tentative, a little unsure, but it was there, faint as it was, and she nodded. "Maybe," she allowed, "we could. That...might not be a bad idea..."

But that was around the time that the buzzer went off at the end of their round, a sound that still seemed to startle Sakaki when it went off, and she looked back at Kurt and said, "Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see."
