It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

Another person Billy didn't know. He knew of Stark from radio but that was about it. So Billy sat, a cold beer in hand and waited, wondering which one of the people wandering around in the very crowded bar was Stark.

Stark did tend to stand out in a crowd.

"Hello," he offered with a small wave. "Billy?" He was fairly sure he had the right person but it was best to check.

Billy nodded and gave a small wave in return. "Stark I take it. Good to put a face (and a very memorable one at that) to the name at last."

Stark nodded a little. "I do stand out, sometimes." Always, really.

"Good to meet you, Billy."

Billy nodded and gave a general wave around at the quite packed bar.

"Done this often? I have to admit I think it's going to be more of a social mixer and an attempt to not be a hermit back in the apartment all night" Billy said.

"A few times," Stark confirmed. "I missed the last one. But Tino always signs me up. It is a good way to talk to people. You haven't tried it before?"

"No, I didn't make it to the last one. Coming up on my one year anniversary, amazingly .... Just not into the social gatherings and what not" Billy explained. "But it does seem like a good way to meet people, such as yourself" he said with a nod to Stark.

"Speaking of meeting new people, what do you do here on the island?"

"I work at the clinic," Stark said. "On Mondays. And I teach sometimes. Two classes right now, with Summer. And the radio, on Wednesdays, or the squirrels won't let me alone. You have a shop?"

"Busy man" Billy commented with an impressed nod. "Yeah, I run the Surf's Up shop. Got basically any surfing or swimming supplies you could need and I also offer classes- both water based and holo-sessions too. Though, seems like the Porg are the most loyal customers I have so far" Billy said, shaking his head. Other than Jon of course, but that was a special case. Jon was more than just 'another customer.'

"I do better when I keep busy," Stark said, nodding a little. "Otherwise I get...it doesn't go well. Sometimes. The porgs like surfing then? Or do they just keep you company?"

"They seem... interested," Billy said, trying to figure what the right word was. "Not the best at it, but it is entertaining. And they are getting a little better at it. At least most of them have learned not to try and eat the surf boards. But yeah, in their own semi-creepy Porg way, they are decent company to have around."

"I like the porgs," Stark said with a faint smile. "There's one at the radio station now. Not so pushy as the squirrels."

And infinitely better than, say, a raccoon.

But there was the buzzer.

"I hope the rest of your night goes well."

"Same to you, Stark. I'm sure I'll see you around," Billy said as he stood and gave a wave.
